Root Nervousness: DInc Radio Up/Downgrade

Hi Everyone-

I apologize if this has already been covered - I have been searching (forums + Google) since last night but can't find a definitive answer...

I have a 2.1 DInc, rooted with Unr3voked and Clockwork. I'd like to try out some of the other ROMs, such as Cyanogen6 or the leaked 2.2. All of these require that you update the phone's radio firmware to version 2.05.00.06.11. I currently have 1.00.03.04.06.

I'm fine with the upgrade process, including unrooting using PB31IMG.zip. What makes me nervous is that I've read in several places that applying an OTA update once the radio is updated to 2.05.00.06.11 could result in a bricked phone. So I've been looking for a way to downgrade / roll back the radio to 1.00.03.04.06, so that I have the option to apply the Froyo OTA when it arrives.

Is this what the "How to revert back to an earlier version of HBOOT" thread is for? There's no mention of the radio firmware on this thread, but this thread over at XDA seems to indicate that the procedure can be used to roll back the radio. Hard to get a definitive answer from that thread, though.

Can anyone confirm:
[a] whether it is possible to roll back the radio from 2.x to 1.x on the DInc?
what the procedure is for doing so?
[c] whether an OTA would brick the phone after upgrading radio to 2.x?

u dont HAVE to update the radio, I keep mine at the old radio since I don't care about camcorder. running CM6 and loving it. u can flash any rom u want 2.2 anything it isnt required to have the new radio, just if u want camcorder.

Yes, The post you referenced is for reverting the OTA (read: radio). If you note the date this was started, it was before any leaked 2.2 showed up.

As for whether or not an OTA will brick your phone if you have manually applied it, no one knows yet. Once the official OTA starts rolling out, we'll have a better idea of what it does.

My opinion is, once you root, you don't take an OTA ever again, unless you are absolutely sure of the consequences.

Primarily I just want to be sure I can get the phone back to stock in case I need to return / warranty it. It sounds like this is the case using the procedure described in the HBoot thread.

Yes, the procedure described in the HBoot thread works perfectly for returning to stock. In fact, I just did so last night. I was running a rooted, leaked OTA, leaked Froyo INC for a few weeks but there were too many bugs/"fixes" required for my tastes. In addition, I wanted to be prepared for the official updates.

So, I followed the procedure in the HBoot thread and returned to a complete stock set-up. Phone is running great and everything works perfectly. I'll stick with stock until the official update and take my chances on being able to root post-official update.

I personally like running stock radio, and switching around ROMs, use the stock rom when I need everything to work right, and I like being able to jump up to 2.2 roms like CM6 to get the extra boost.

I updated th radio...was running Froyo 2.2....and have reverted back twic now...including the radio...Im a noob for the most part too.... its really really easy to do...just follow the directions

I've decided to run completely stock until the official OTA update comes.

wow was I pissed when I just loaded up the leaked 8/1 and it updated my radio!! WTF no other 2.2 rom has ever done that, I didnt realize it was so easy to revert back to 1.x radio... does it matter I have .79 hboot

You should give skyraider a try...been running it for about a week now, and haven't seen any bugs at all (knock on wood)...
