rant about weird things.

The droid comes with both voice dialer and voice search. They are almost the same. Each do a few things the other does not. Their quality is very different.

Voice dialer works like crap. It wont recognize a lot of names. Like it won't read the name Jason. I had like 4 verizon employes trying it at the store with 3 different droids and no one could get it to call Jason. When it does work for a name you have to press a button to confirm it before it calls, which defeats the purpose a bit.

Voice search always works, always knows exactly what I'm saying and if I say, "call joe mobile" it just calls immediately. Perfect.

Why include 2 programs that do ALMOST the same thing and make one an utter piece of crap.

Why not make one that does it all and does it well.

In many ways droid makes my old iphone seem like droid lite, but I'll never understand how some of these design decisions make it through quality control.

Maybe these guys are too smart and can't see the forest through the trees, but come on. For example.....

3 email apps? A special one for google, a special one for exchange, and one for everything else that can also do google so it makes the first one redundant. It could all easily be handled by one. Oh, and the standard email app it came with won't do push so I had to down load another app bringing me up to 4 mail apps because for some reason you can't hide or delete the other 3.

When comes to buying electronics I use a metaphor about choosing between 2 cars. One has things in weird places ( ie gas pedal on the roof), redundant but slightly different things ( two different handles to open one door, one plastic, one chrome) and other weird decisions you don't understand. The other car has everything in the right spot but it only runs on apple gas and will only go to destinations approved by apple.

Nobody seems to understand what intuitive is. Even apple doesn't understand intuitive doesn't have to mean minimalistic. And F apple for being so controlling. They won't even let me change my background without hacking my phone. What are they afraid of? Am I not going to be able to see my icons spazz out and shove the phone up my ass. I hate you apple you insult my intelligence.

Droid is almost there, but 2 voice control programs, 3 email programs, and 2 calender programs? Thats 7 programs that could easily be handled by 3.

Now I just found out if a sms goes over 160 characters instead of splitting it up it just cuts it off. So to fix that I will now have 2 sms programs.

Maybe being able to program well and being able to design a good interface with out being a fruit loving, micro-managing, controlling, conformist a$$hat is really that hard. I just think I'm smarter than everyone.

I agree with you, I think that cell phone makers should read the forums it would really help them. I know they have a few "teams" to work on a new cell phone, its almost as if they all do there part then throw it together anyway it will fit. Its not just moto or apple, but all phones have some sorta serious handicaps. But you would think with the millions they spend on r&d they could get a better result. The keyboard for example, I love having it, but I could have done much better myself! Heck just look at it and you see all the problems with it, no testing needed. Oh well its still the best option on the market IMO....

That sums it up. I also believe it's the best option on the market, and also whole heartedly believe you could of done a better job with the keyboard among other things. And I have no idea who you are. All it takes is a little common sense. Its not that they made so many bad decisions, its that the one's they made were so obviously bad.

Which leads me to a question. What about the phone would you have done different and exactly how would you do it? This question is just for fun for anyone who feel like answering.

yup it just cuts it off after 160.

other threads imply that it depends on the receiver's carrier too - some are sending 160+ messages to a friend on one network (not verizon) and it sends the full text, whereas the same person will send a 160+ to a friend on a completely different network (also not verizon) and it cuts off.

i haven't tested this, fully anecdotal from other forum posts. YMMV.

my only real gripe worth mentioning is the keyboard. i love hardware keyboards, but this one is very hard to type on without looking. i'm in the rare camp that doesn't care how slim my device is after a point - another 1/4cm to give the keyboard keys a more raised feel would have been fine with me. or, at the absolute least, some separation between them (i have a voyager as well and i can type full speed on that without looking because of the key layout).

i'm getting used to this one, but think the hardware keyboard could have been designed slightly better.

oh, and this is totally stupid, but i think the volume rocker and camera button are on the wrong side. i'm used to holding the phone in my left hand, which makes it very easy to turn clockwise; not so easy to turn counterclockwise. the voyager goes the other way, and i find it much more natural. plus it's hard to change the volume with my index finger, i'd rather use my left hand thumb.

but, all in all, i absolutely love this phone. no question.

I have a feeling the keyboard is the way it is to keep the phone so thin. Personally I could deal with a tad of extra bulk to give the keys a more raised feel. I loved the keyboard on the Voyager, or even the whole eNV series, LG makes great keyboards and the Eve is proof of it for Android phones. One thing that I don't understand is the 2 blank keys.....what the hell is that Motorola? You could of made the space bar wider if not anything else. I have NEVER EVER seen a phone with blank keys.

i'm with you there 100%. i hate the "my phone has to be thinnest" trend. there's a limit to me, and i feel like we're in the diminishing returns part where we're losing functionality for essentially the 'cool' factor of having a super thin phone.

seriously. LG's hardware design, at least the keyboard, is awesome. wasted space on something like this makes no sense. at the absolute least make it the equivalent of a Ctrl or Cmd key, so i could Cmd+Left between words. but i like the longer spacebar idea.

FWIW, you can hold Alt and press left/right/up/down when typing. they shortcut to: home, end, top, bottom. thought i'd throw that out there in case anyone hasn't seen that yet.
