Anyone know if it is possible to have someone else on my line buy the Droid X at the discounted price and give it to me? Would they be able to cancel their plan, or are they locked into a data plan? I just purchased a Droid back in late June and all 3 of the new Droids just came out not long after, but unfortunately after my 30 day trial period, I'm just trying to figure out anyway to get ahold of the X, Incredible, or Droid 2.

Also DroidLife is saying Verizon is offering training on August 12, when Droid 2 is supposed to come out apparentely to offer an upgrade to Droid 2?

Any possibility this is legit, and how would it work.

A new 2 year contract is required, if I am not mistaken, unless you are already a Verizon Customer. If so, then you can log into my Verizon.com and Order a new phone online at Full Price if you are not yet eligible for a new phone. Please also note that trying to ship a Droid or Droid X overseas could potentially be stopped at the border by U.S.A. Customs!

According to Verizon there are no Buddy Upgrades allowed you have to leave that serial number on that Mobile Number so you cannot upgrade a different line and move to get the early promotion. Verizon may still be running the offer where if you goto the completely unlimited plan they will wipe out your contracts. You could try and do like I did. Switch to the unlimited plan, get all new phones then after you have the rebates in hand downgrade your plan to what you want. They never hit me with any penalties and everything has been fine.

Yes it is possible. Your friend could get a new contract, get the phone you like, , remove the data from their plan and activate a different phone on their line, then give the phone you want to you. As long as they have a phone to fall back on they will be fine. This is possible because technically they aren't canceling their contract, just changing their service. If they do cancel all together they will owe a cancellation fee and possibably have to give their phone (the one you want) back (I don't know about this because I have never done it nor know anyone who has tried).

I know this because I have gotten upgrades off of other peoples lines in the past.

Yes well someone on my line has an LG Chocolate 3 or something, she wants to stay with the basic plan, no data package. But is she able to buy say the Droid X, cancel the data plan and just remain on the basic call plan without incurring any fees and be able to give the Droid X to me to be activated on my account?

I don't think there would be any problem. Like I said I have done it before myself without a single problem. If you wanted to be really sure it would work you could do the upgrade in the store then change them around by calling in. From my experience the two don't communicate very well together.

i'm prettttttty sure that if you sign up for an unlimited plan with all the whistles and get a 2 year contract for say the droid X, you have to leave your plan at that plan for a minimum of like 6months to a year before you can downgrade or you have to pay some money back. Not 100% on that, but thats what the verizon rep told me

They tried to tell me that in the store too that I had to keep the plan for the full 2 years but I used to work for an agent I know that they have know way of tracking that, at least thats what we were told by our regional rep. He didn't like it when I mentioned in the store thats what I was going to do but the way I see it is if they let me login online and make those changes then too bad. They know if I can get a new phone or not so they should b able to tell if I am locked in a plan as well. I did that in the end of March and so far to this date its been fine. When I did it I got 2 new Droids and 2 Alias 2s.

You can definitely buy a phone on another account, activate it, then deactivate it and remove the data plan. Then the phone can be activated on ANY line, so long as that line adds a data plan. The phone has to be activated on the account that purchases it first so that the contract stuff (2 year contract, renewal dates, etc) are updated.

The 6 months is for the rep to get a charge back and lose money in their commission. So like I tried to go to a mall location and add a line to get the droid X, well I said I was going to switch it over to my other number. On the same account, then he told me he cant let me have the Droid X since I will be switching lines, cause he will be charged back. After he already added the line to my account. Asshole.

So should I just have the other person on my plan buy the Droid X for the discount. Have the phone activated onto their account, then call in later have them drop the data plan and have the Droid X activated under my account? This is sure to work? I don't want to get stuck having two data plans, cause they don't want it, but if you can cancel the data without any fees it sounds great.
