Am I crazy? Thinking of going back to 2.1...

When I heard 2.2 was coming I was excited. New features and of course the speed. 2.2 came and I waited for the rooted version, that came and I installed it along with the FPS fix kernel I had before with 2.1. Before with 2.1 it was fast, scrolling was smooth as butter , opening everything was quick. Now comes 2.2 and everything is well choppy to say the least. Scrolling stutters a bit. Sometimess it lags so much just closing an app going to the homescreen. So far Im having a hard time thinking the upgrade was worth it, So far the good doesnt outweigh the bad. Im thinking of going back...Am I the only one having these thoughts?

Gonna have to agree with OP! This phone with 2.2 is making me have nightmares about the Samsung Moment it replaced...it is THAT bad. I have not tried Earlymon's fix and will likely do that momentarily. I suggest the OP do the same. My biggest issue is the gallery. It seems that the gallery "repopulates" the folders everytime you select one. And it seems that it takes significant processor power to do this so it is hard to scroll and select a picture in the gallery while it is in this repopulate mode. On 2.1, it would populate the folder only once and then seemed to have that folder cached and it came up immediately next time you selected it. ANyway, I use my phone to show people pictures all the time and it is embarrassing to have to wait 20 seconds for a picture to come up....

That is giving you "nightmares"? Lol

And your sig?

"intuitive" != "dumbed down"

Maybe it's the ROM/kernel you're running, but my 2.2 is smooth with the latest netarchy kernel and Baked Snack 1.2... My 2.1 wasn't really smooth until I rooted my phone. In the end it's your choice, you can easily go back to a 2.1 ROM since you're rooted.

I'm with sikclown. We've all read your posts. You're crazy and changing Android revisions won't help. :lma0: (just kidding)

Just an FYI - the http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-evo-4g/141369-how-fix-froyo.html tips are as valid for a new root as they are for anyone with stock.

I used that process on both my .3 and .6 rooted roms - made a difference.

I replaced just the kernel going from stock to naked bunny 3.7.6c the other day - and found that I had to run the process again. At this point, I'm simply doing it instead of a Dalvik wipe when I install stuff.

Install packages are only as clean as the process that built them combined with your phone and your installations - root or stock, no difference.

I'm no longer trusting people that I should wipe then install and presume the install is clean. I'm unabashedly installing dirty and then cleaning up post-install.

Works like a charm. Runs like greased lightning with 3.7.7 -

And that's with Sense. (And in fairness, this floats around depending on how much I'm running and phases of the moon. It's gone as low 1165 on my very first attempt with 3.7.6c.)

It's funny that that issue alone is giving you "nightmares". Also, I added something about your sig after the fact.

We were a two Moment house, now it's down to my wife's.

While waiting to decide on the Epic, I've decided to update her to the Radioactive Froyo rom. The fact that Moment never wants to be seen by a PC long enough to complete the update would give me nightmares if I could at least sleep now that I've started. :D

Srsly - have you ever owned a Moment? I know exactly what he's talking about.

flyj - go for it. Your Momentary nightmares will end, promise.

? He's saying he's having nightmares about the photos refreshing when he opens the gallery on the Evo. That's a pretty minor issue if you ask me.

Ok so I am having a lot of the similar issues I guess on 2.2. One thing I am noticing is that some applications just will not stop no matter how many times I kill them, so either app killer is not working or somehow they just keep starting, I dunno. I just started uninstalling them all and that worked LOL. Next issue is sometimes buttons just wont work, by buttons I mean the part of the screen that you touch to close a program, or even send a text message, its like the application does not completely lock up but some buttons just don't work? For instance sometimes when sending a text message for the first time to somebody in a new thread after typing a message the "send" button is greyed out.... Very very annoying. Also I get some lag scrolling and other annoyances. I had a much better experience on 2.1 honestly. The only benifit from 2.2 is flash. I would rather wait for a polished 2.2 that doesn't have these problems.

Anybody know on a stock phone how to downgrade to 2.1?

It seems the majority aren't having any real problems with 2.1, although I suspect some of those people aren't doing things where the problems would become apparent (e.g., multiple push email accounts). But there is clearly a substantial minority having problems that range from minor to serious. There ARE some significant bugs in this version of the OS or, more likely, in htc's integration and customization of 2.2.

I have no issues with my phone on 2.1. Maybe 2.2 is faster, but I have no complaints about the speed of my phone. I don't really care about BT dialing. The application changes in 2.2 are a mixed bag, imho, not all good. I'm sticking with 2.1 until htc issues a bug fix release for 2.2

Nothing wrong with that strategy - but recall - a lot of people had a lot of trouble with the 1.47 upgrades.

Look over the "what's not covered" section of http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-evo-4g/141369-how-fix-froyo.html.

I'd assert that the entire Android upgrade process is broken.

Even with a clean install, it fails on a dirty machine. And even if the 2.1 machine is clean in its own right - doesn't mean that mixing cache / data from 2.1 with any 2.2 update will result in a clean machine.

Some day, the package developers will get that and fix it by cleaning up just the right stuff as a post-install step.

Or - they'll continue to be lazy and make it a user problem.

Until the former or in case of the latter, bookmark that thread, it's helped more than a few 2.1 users, too.

Actually, after reading his post about the gallery, I went in and loaded one folder, went to another folder, and my battery dropped 20%. Don't know if it's a coincidence or what.

Hey, long time, no see! Hope all's swell.

A 20% drop is just too bizarre - no way that happened electrically.

Keep an eye on that. If what you saw was true, then it means your software is getting all snarky on you. In that case, you'll love this, promise:

Seems intricate at first, but read the 1st post and follow the links in it.

All positive feedback when the procedure's followed.
