X10 mini pro firmware update

At 1600 GMT today, my phone said it had a software update - but despite being able to check for an update on the phone, it doesn't appear able to do OTA updating.

Now I'm home, the battery is dead and so I have to wait for it to charge - and find a PC to install the software update software on. I'm wondering if I'll then lose all my data in the process?

Anyway, has anyone else been told there's an update and doesn't anyone know what it is? I'd like to think it's 2.1 but I am 99% sure it isn't, but I'd be almost as happy to know that it offers what they did on the X10 - improved standby time first and foremost... and also to fix the touchscreen problem where it can stop responding completely until you go back into standby, wait and unlock.

Or it might just update some of the apps on the ROM, given you can't update them via Market at all.

Anyone else?

Not sure!

When it booted up, it took ages to start - shows Sony Ericsson text, plays animation and then 'froze' on SE logo and text. For ages. Was sure it had crashed and was about to pull the battery and then it finished - a good 4 or 5 minutes.

I really don't know what it was doing, but hope it was optimising something along the way.

Now, whenever you do a firmware update (just like servicing a car), you always convince yourself it's faster and smoother - and that's what I think now. It seems to work quicker (I use ADW Launcher) and suffer less lagging - not that it was that slow before - and so there may be some improvements there.

I can't see any other changes though. And the battery (using Juice Defender and Juice Plotter) may not have improved. I don't use Timescape anyway (so can't tell if that has been improved) but Juice Plotter is now saying I've got 4hrs left - albeit with only 25% accuracy. It was fully charged last night and not used except for a 45 minute train journey to work.

There must be a changelog somewhere?? SE made a big thing of the X10 update to highlight improvements, but there's no reference to this anywhere - besides a few people on Esato saying they've got it.

I guess we must keep waiting until 2.1 for any major improvements.

No better/worse than the native homescreen - except that every now and then I can wake up in the morning with a phone that went from full charge to being 10-15%. Juice Defender has switched off data/Wi-Fi, and I have good coverage, suggesting a problem that can only be attributed to a handful of things - and ADW Launcher might or might not be one of them.

It's rare, but a disaster if you've had your phone on a desk and when you pick it up to go somewhere discover the battery has died.

It will take a few days/weeks to see if this problem has gone away as part of the update. Without a changelog, it's impossible to tell what's been fixed!

What I can say though, after using it today, is that it seems to respond quicker. Not - YET - had the touchscreen stop responding. If they've fixed that, then you can't update soon enough!

For anyone who hasn't yet done an update; you'll need a Windows PC to run the software via Sony Ericsson - Marketingurlportal - you will then have the option to install without losing data or format and install (if you fancy starting with a vanilla handset). I still did a full backup with its own app, but the update was quick and painless.

I can't comment on the rooting but I can say that the battery IS a lot better now for me. It's also a lot quicker and I've not had the screen stop responding to touch, so I'd have to say that this update is essential.

And go to http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...rviceapplication/xperiax10minipro?cc=in&lc=en and select the X10 mini pro and you'll be able to download the Sony Ericsson update software (PC only). Switch off phone, run software, hold down back button when plugging in and off you go.

hey jon, what network are u on? cause im on 02 and it's telling me 1.1.A.0.8 is the latest? and the sony website says there has'nt been any updates Sony Ericsson | New software updates | Update Service and PC Suite

O2 haven't released the latest firmware yet as they're still testing it. To my knowledge they're the only UK network that haven't:

O2 Forum :: View topic - X10 firmware update, when (if?) is it coming?

So if I can find a decent debranding guide for the X10 Mini Pro then I'll do that and get the firmware myself.

It might be SIM-free but is it branded at all? Some networks supply branded phones (even if it's just their logo on the startup animation) but don't SIM-lock them.

It could also be that SE still has regions, as they did on their normal phones, for reasons of language/dictionaries and they've not rolled out the update to every region.

I don't know what region I have, but it is UK. SE has multiple EURO regions on their normal handsets.

Sorry I can't help more!

I bought it new, SIM-free, in the UK, from play.com. No branding of any kind, anywhere - just SE graphics.

I'm not too worried at the moment, as it's only a vague firmware update, but I'm going to get really jealous if loads of people get 2.1 before me! :p

edit: I'm still on version 1.1.A.0.8. Tried updating over 3G, wifi, Update Service, and PC Companion. I even did a repair, to see if it downloaded a new version that way. I notice I have a backup app, but I'm not sure if that was there before the repair or not.

I suspect the update service is checking my phone network, despite being an unbranded phone.

It isn't 2.1, no, but the increase in battery performance has been quite staggering. I'm yet to get the red LED flashing and a low-battery warning in normal usage, which is nothing like what it was like before.

They've clearly fixed a number of issues with the phone itself, as against the OS (which will be updated hopefully soon) - so I'd keep trying to get it updated!

Of course, there's always the possibility that you've already got the latest version. And, for anyone reading this with an X10 mini (not pro) the version number after the update is different. If you've got the backup application then it's the new one.

There's now a new update again, but this time OTA (you can't see it if you go via the Update Service).

I've downloaded it three times now and it always fails to install, presumably as it is patching the phone (no data loss) and I'd rooted it and removed some apps (RoadSync and the free games that expired).

The annoying thing is that you can't FORCE a reinstall of the software via SEUS. I hope that when the time comes that the next update is made available via SEUS, I can then do a complete erase/reinstall.

The new version has some new widgets and other tweaks, like the way things are ordered on the status bar.

I am having the same problem as you are. The trouble for me is I can't even revert back to the old software before I rooted using SE Update service or PC companion. I am just hoping that i will be able to update to 2.1 when its released cos as it stands now i can't unroot my phone. If anyone knows of a way to flash the u20i generic uk back onto my phone please help.

I did the recent update via the PC (there was no OTA option, which seems to have appeared since the last update) but now when I do it, I am told there's no update - even though there's the OTA one. Confused?!

However, I can wait, but how come I've lost the ability to do a reinstall of the existing software? That would clear everything and put it back to factory condition, but I can't do it. Instead, I am told it's up to date - then told there's a new update, which downloads Over-The-Air, and fails.

I do wonder what fun I'll have come the 2.1 update, which must be coming up fairly soon!
