Root FRG22 or BB?

FRG01B and FRG22 are stock ROms (except for the possiblity for rooting).

The others are custom ROMs with their own feature set *added* to the ROM they are built off of.

BB is a bit old now, based upon the older FRF84B release, but in and of itself is a great ROM (I used it for over a month).

The problem with asking for recommendations is this: They are going to be everyone's opinions, and opinions are just like you-know-what- we all got one.

The best advice for someone like you is to do the following:

  • Make sure that you know how to make backups - repeatedly - when you are playing with ROMs - it will help in the long run if something breaks.
  • Make sure you backup often - otherwise point 1 is moot.
  • Try the ROMs out yourself and see what they are like and how well they work for you.

Also, remember that the stock Froyo builds are overclocked to 800 MHz by default - I think Pete's does 700, not sure of the others - so you'll need to make an apples to apples comparison. Saying Pete's is slower than, say, the stock is not really fair as it is already clocked slower, so you're making unequal comparisons already.

Finally, in case you've already forgotten: BACKUP!

Happy ROMing!!

My vote's for BB simply because it's bugless, easy for beginners and novices (like me  ) and is overclocked stock at 800 MHz.

Once you install an overclock kernel (update.zip without the wipe) then SetCPU scales your clock speed as demanded.

Welcome to the ROMming world!

SetCPU does a world more than that, and can be your best friend or your worst enemy.

When it comes to overclocking, the DROID

Your phone cannot boot without some sort of a kernel installed. The kernel drives the Operating System, in layman's terms.

As fro OCing, yes, plenty of those available, and once again it is your choice - you'll need to play with them and see which ones work well on your phone and which do not. Some phones don't do well with moderate to heavy OCing whereas some don't mind it all, depending upon the kernel whereas some seem to love it.

You really have to decide for yourself - but before you jump into doing all of this, one more piece of advice:

Do one thing at a time and test thoroughly.

if oyu change the ROM, add a kernel and change your SetCPU settings and the phone goes unstable, you have no idea if it is the ROM, the kernel not playing nicely with the settings you have / the ROM, or the settings you changed in SetCPU....

I have the FRG22 from OMJs guide and its only set to 600mhz. what gives?

your problem is you picked a stock rom. this is an officcial rom and they only released stock froyo with a 600mhz kernal. you could either flash one of the dev's roms that comes with an over clocked kernal or flash just a kernal such as chevy's or p3droids. i have had the best luck with these. pretty much everyone can run at one gig standard voltage. i would start there for a kernal choice.

ultra low low and medium is the voltage of the kernals. generally speaking the lower the voltage the better the battery llife. however some phones dont really like ultra low voltage and some do it turns out that some droids need more voltage to function properly. a good starting point is to use the low voltage 1 gig kernal. if your phone handles that well, you can go up in speed or down in voltage.
