I posted this yesterday, but today it disappeared. I know I posted it, because when I went to re-post, my auto fill filled in the same title I used yesterday!!

This bug will only affect those who write texts in languages other than English.

You are allowed 160 characters in a text message. However, if you type a character using an accent, like this:

really?

wow you guys must really not have anything else to complain about in life if this is a major issue for you

I don't see anywhere in this thread where it states this is a "major" issue. Additionally, I don't see anyone other then YOU complaining in this thread.

There is an Android issue being discussed that can be replicated on more then one phone. That's what these forums are for.
After reviewing the initial post, the user has concerns because they are charged per text. If there text messages characters are limited, then they will have to send more text message just to get their point across. This will incur additional fees.

Please contribute something positive, if available. Thanks!

Really? Try sending say, 50 or 100 text messages to someone in a foreign country, then let me know what shows up on your bill.

Anyway, I'll try posting this over at xda and see if anything comes up. If it indeed is an Android bug, it needs to go on a list. Spanish isn't even my first language, I'm sure there are many people (who may not read this forum) who this "bug" affects.

Thanks guys.:)

The reason for this is the entire message is converted to unicode when you enter an "accented" character. And Unicode characters require more bytes than standard ISO-8859 encoding. It's not a bug.

Sounds reasonable, except...

I have a cheap unlocked AT&T phone that I use down in TJ on Telcel's network. That phone is always set to Spanish. I regularly type using accented characters, and am always allowed 160 characters.

Do accented characters use less bytes over GSM???
