anyone get a text from att today upgrading there data plan to the 30 dollar plan? theres been reports that att is sending out text to people who dont have data on there x10 and people who have the 15 dollar plan. upgrading them to the 30 dollar plan. i have an x10a and i havent received the message, i have the 30 dollar unlimited text and data.

Yep, I got popped by att this morning. They told me that now they consider my x10 the same as an iphone. And because I have this new phone they told me they switched me even though I bought this off the net. I was mad and am still considering going to verizon for a droid x.
did you have no data plan to begin with. im just trying to figure out why i havent gotten the text

Are they allowed to do that? Surely a plan is actually a contract between the two parties and any changes have to be agreed by both.

I guess if it means that you are saving money in the long run its not so bad, maybe if you were incurring lots of extra charges on the 15dollar plan for data and texts as you were exceeding your limits it might be more economical to go to the $30 one. What is your unlimited data really worth...here in UK mine is 3 g a month and then I think you get charged if you go over that.

I can confirm that my Roger's branded X10a got bumped to the $25 smartphone plan (there is no $30 unlimited plan anymore). I was previously on the $15 feature phone plan.

That is fine. The data plans are features that are not part of the contract. If AT&T deems that your phone is a smartphone, then you are bumped to the smartphone data plan, whether you bought the phone from them or not. Their rules, so sue them if you want.

By the same token, it means also that the Xperia X10 is coming to AT&T soon. AT&T checks the IMEI of the phone. It is obvious that the X10 is now in its database.
