Are there any custom roms for the captivate running froyo? Or are there any roms running 2.1 with no touchwiz? I'm considering getting the epic when it comes out but I want to make sure I'll be able to avoid touchwiz and be able to just run stock android. Thanks in advance!

Don't count on it. Development on the Captivate seems to have been come almost to a halt, and making stock ROMs has proven to be extremely difficult without bugs.

Halt...I think not.

Some early snags due to unfortunate showstopper bugs in Samsung source code...we got a point.

Captivate and Vibrant (and probably Fascinate) are really really close in terms of the hardware. Fixes that are discovered on one are likely going to be ported on the others in a matter of weeks. Besides that, the Captivate is going to be the biggest seller among those three, as T-Mobile has a significantly smaller customer base than AT&T, and Fascinate has many more high end Android alternatives on Verizon. It's early in the game, but support is bound to follow the popularity of the device.

I should have rephrased my statement. Don't count on it SOON would have been better. The folks at XDA are all over the place at the moment, as no one is stepping up to the plate for Captivate development. And while the Captivate might be the highest seller, most of the Dev Crowd seem to favor T-Mobile, home of the G1, Nexus One. The Vibrant is getting a lot more attention by developers.

Do you think devs will favor the epic when it comes out?

Dev hasn't halted at all. I spend most of my time at XDA and it's actually really starting to take off. Alot of the fixes are still in a beta phase but their coming along. Their getting the Captivate section under control with a mod and cleaning it up a bit.

International ROMs have worked really well for people with the exception of Froyo. The issue is two fold, on one hand, the froyo rom that is out is really a alpha release, very much in the test phase. And captivate and vibrant can't run it because there's currently no 2.2 kernel for those phones.

Give it time, in the coming months you'll be seeing an explosion of development. I think people are a little spoiled by what's been happening with some other phones. Nexus One was a Google phone, of course the dev for that took off. Alot of the other phones are older and the International Galaxy S was out at least a month before the U.S variants and their just picking up steam.

The ROM's will come, just hang in there.
