Compare these 2 ads (verizon/Apple)

Compare them how? The Apple one actually seems fine to me. I have seen the Verizon one a few times, and it is really awkward.. I always think "did I miss something" like did one company make some kinda racial or gender related comment that Verizon is trying to play against?

I thought the message of the verizon ad was that people should be able to express their ideas without the worry that they wouldn't be taken seriously because of what they look like. Good ideas shouldn't be censored or dismissed simply because they are different.

i thought both ads were stupid, but the verizon one was the dumber of the two in my opinion... at least the apple one made sense lol

and yes iowa i agree, i work at verizon, and when we got all of the new marketing posters and crap in the mail i was like what the f**k is this shit? they shoulda kept the "can you hear me now?" guy

on a related note, verizon is horrible at marketing IMO... look at the droid commercials, robot hands flipping phones around with cyborg voices, all of it seems lame to me...

This (mostly).

I see the VZW commercial and think "WTF was that supposed to be" as it does nothing for me and nothing to convince me to switch to VZW. The Apple one on the other hand does a fine job of portraying the product and why it would be useful.

Would I ever buy another iphone, no. But the iphone commercial is much better done and it's message is clearer IMO.

Interesting. My brother told me he was turned off by the apple ads. Said it was a appeal to emotion over reason.

Both ads are appealing to the base emotional response of their target audiences. They have almost nothing to do with the products themselves, although the Apple ad does directly show its medium on screen. Personally I am offended by both ads because the message they are projecting is irrelevant to the technology and yet they imply the technology is necessary.

Verizon ... ideas are relevant or ridiculous whether they are written on a napkin or posted on facebook from a moving vehicle. It's just that the latter is more dangerous and likely to show a larger audience the lack of eloquence and literacy in modern educational systems.

Apple ... personal communications are best served in person. Tell your significant other they look good to their face, tell your spouse you are pregnant in person. If you suggest that people turn on facetime at funerals or carry their iPhone into the delivery room, they will, and it will still be in bad taste.

I am sure both campaigns will be successful.

But aren't we doing this right now? We don't know what you look or sound like and nobody cares. We just care about the actual response.
The other day someone posted a video here about some woman expressing her views about the iPhone and most of the responses dealt with the size of her chest! That's ridiculous.
The problem I have with the verizon ad is that you don't deal with these kinds of issues when you're trying to sell a service. That trivializes serious issues and concerns. Also, it seems to suggest that we shouldn't have videochat or even voice call but should hide behind text exclusively. That's why I thought it was the anti-facetime ad.

Someone's at work all day and want to see his SO during a break...I understand that. but Apple goes a bit too over the top with the sniffing and crying and contrived drama.

He didn't say it wasn't. The TV ads are laughable.

really? you're starting to sound a little fanboyish haha i love android and the droid does slogan is good, but the robot arm commercials don't really appeal to most people. They should focus more on googles functionality apps, live wallpapers, things like that. A lot of ppl that come into verizon say "ohh you can get apps on this like the iphone does?" ... and I'm definitely not saying to advertise it as an "iphone killer" because we've all seen verizon fail epically with that with the bb storm and env-touch (what a joke) ... I'm just saying.. focus on things normal people care about, don't make the thing look like the ****in continuum transfunctioner :D (yes i know they say things about the apps, but most ppl are too distracted by the weird cyborg shit going on on their tv screen to notice

They did show apps such as runstar, skype, etc. The latest ads now show actual humans but still within the sci-fi summer blockbuster movie theme, which I like.

I do like it when they actually show you the device in action. Many of the mac ads were disappointing because they never showed a mac doing anything. You just saw a screen with the word 'Mac' at the end. Justin Long was also a big turnoff. They've changed course with the ipod and iphone....but these iphone4 ads are terrible.
