4. Install NexTheme (and customizations if you wish).

Note: If installing default font or battery %, install NexTheme first, then apply patches.

Outdated - For Android 2.1 Only
Changelog

V2.1: Fixed the horizontal progress bars (the weird behavior before a download, etc.)

V2: Fixed the pull down buttons so now you can read the white text. Themed MotoTorch and Ringer Control Widgets now included! Optional wallpapers can be found here:

nexpapers.zip

Instructions

1. Download 'MetaMorph' from the market. Run it once and grant it root permissions.

2. Download the following file:

NexTheme_V2-1.zip

3. Extract the file. Make a folder on your sdcard called nextheme. Extract the contents of the 'framework' and 'apps' folder into sdcard/nextheme. Extract the contents of the 'metamorph' folder into sdcard/AndroidThemes

4. We will first need to push framework-res.apk and services.jar to the system. Open up your terminal emulator or adb (preferably) and type:

Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/nextheme/framework-res.apk /system/framework/
reboot

after this reboot, you should notice a different status bar, but the clock and time will still be black.

open up terminal emulator (or adb) again and this time we'll push services.jar

Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/nextheme/services.jar /system/framework/
reboot

the following reboot will take between 3-5 minutes!

Now the clock and time, etc. will be white.

5. Now, fire up MetaMorph and choose unzip/extract new theme, select nextheme, and let it do it's thing extracting. Once it's done extracting, you can apply all the themes (for the apps), or apply only the ones you want.

6. Using the 'Files' app that comes with the Droid X, you can navigate to sdcard/nextheme and install the widgets if you'd like. You can see what they look like in the screenshots section.

7. Enjoy your new theme :)

do not use root explorer to do this. It will result in a bootloop that can only be fixed with the sbf file

How to get back to stock

The following instructions are for 2.1 only -- a 2.2 method will be released this weekend

Those looking to get back to stock can use this file:

Back_to_stock.zip

There are extra apps in the MM on purpose, since you can use this with other themes as well (and possibly more things will be themed in future releases of NexTheme)

Use the same instructions as installing this theme.

Installed this on my phone today, at first it rebooted twice - thought I was reboot locked. But after that second boot all was OK. Then I cp'ed the services.jar and waited a little while. It proceeded to do a two-boot process as well. Once all that noise was said and done, it started looking pretty sexy. So I fired up metamorph, extracted the theme files, applied them all and voila! It works fantastically and now my friends who have the Droid X wonder why my phone looks so much cooler. ;)

This is still running "on top of" Blur correct?

This does not replace it nor fix the occasional stutter of Blur through the screens?

That's correct, this is just a theme and a aesthetic change only, there are no performance implications.

Also, for anyone who wants to try this, we found out the hard way at Droid Forums that root explorer does not work. So only use adb or terminal emulator.

I've run into a problem since applying the theme(s), whenever I plug my phone into the usb cord and connect it to my computer my phone resets twice.

Edit: Phone will not turn off, it instantly boots back up (twice) after pressing power off.

Edit: Pulled the battery and now everything is fine.

Is there any way to get back to stock without using the sbf file n testing your phone, like in case this causes any issues with the froyo update? Any chance it will? Or is it same old nobody knows?

I don't think it would affect the froyo update since all it does is changes the .png images. And Fab said that he would make a MM that would take it back to "stock"
