Just figured out how to download and assign a newer ringtone/sound to email and sms
All through the Evo using astro ...

I now have aol;s classic you've got mail for gmail...still looking for a good sms one...

What is everyone using as there's?

I used a Shortened "Anticipation" from the Pre for email. It reminds me of the "This just in" kind of sound for news reports.

I use "Boss you have a text message" for my text notifications. I tell everyone that it's the only way I get anyone to call me Boss.

Ringtone is a cut from Toes by the Zac Brown Band.

I usually set all my notifications to the same sound. I used the old "Message for you, Sir" from Monty Pythons Holy Grail complete with the arrow sound.

My newer one however is the Droiiiiid sound mashed together with the Transformers "opening" transformation sound. I custom made it the other day, sounds pretty good together. Something different.

My ringer is the chorus from "Hey You" by 311. I usually make my own ringers however with Audacity which is what I used to make the "DroidTransformer" tone.

What format is the best for use with ringers and notification sounds? .MP3? .WAV?
Explain your details, if you can, please.

I use the MP3 format. Not many details to tell with it really. Audacity is a free software that makes it easy to cut songs down to whatever portion you want to use. There are step by step instructions floating around the net. I cut mine down to about 30 seconds then export as the MP3 and its all good. Just drag and drop into a ringers folder inside the notifications folder.

Now, with Audacity you have to download a separate lame.dll file. Again, instructions for that floating around as well. None of it is overly difficult. I know there are other options out there that are probably much simpler but I started using this back when I had my Motorola Q phones so I'm just used to it.

Help!!! I have been a dedicated iPhone user for 3 years...but, am testing the droid. So far it outshines the iPhone. However i am having trouble with responding to my texts. I need more than one loud reminder and the notification light. Can I program it to give me three audiable alerts?

You can do this with handcent. handsent>settings>notification settings>notification settings (again)>enable reminders.
