Just thought i'd share my story with you guys. ;)

It was earlier this evening in fact. I went with my friends to check out the iphone 4 for the first time. So i decided to try and see the reception problem for myself. I took out my nexus one and did a side by side comparison. However to my surprise the iphone 4 was already at 2 bars the moment i picked it up, no idea why as my nexus one (Which was on the SAME carrier btw) had more bars on it at the same time. I carried on with the test anyway. You guys can guess the result.

The bars didnt drop completely as the coverage in singapore is much better. But that doesnt mean it had better reception than my nexus one.

But the interesting thing was the lady beside me noticed us and asked "what are you trying to prove?". So while her daughter plays with the ipad, I kindly explained to her the whole issue with the iphone 4's revolutionary antenna having a ******ed flaw by which it loses signal when you cover the bottom left corner of the phone, unlike my phone which did not suffer as much as a drop. She then proceeded to saying "But they fixed the problem if you use the bumpers right?". Thats when i explained that you should not rely on a silly bumper case to improve reception when the actual problem lies with the antenna's design itself. But again she said "but the problem is fixed with the case right?". With one of the store sales person watching us the entire time, i still carried on and said "no it doesnt solve the problem, it only prevents it from happening". So we continued playing with the phone and she asked "you all are not fans of apple are you?". Trying not to be so direct, i just said "I actually used to have an iphone, but i didnt like it so i got this instead *shows nexus one*".

Ive never done this kind of thing before, so it was kinda thrilling. Especially when you know the staff is looking at you pseudo-promoting a rival phone. After looking at the iphone 4, i really think it does look beautiful, but it will still be crippled by the limitations of the OS regardless of how you jailbreak it. When i left the store i kinda hoped i shed some light into that lady's decision on whether or not to buy an iphone 4 or any other phone (Android or non-android).

End of story.

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and he showed me his new iPhone 4 that he just got. He tried to explain to me why it was better then my phone (Samsung Captivate) or Androids in general, but all he could say could be summarized into "because it's an Apple product"

I know right? Its like they're brainwashed or something... So, if I picked up some hard Cow shit and put an Apple logo on it, Will it be the best bullshit ever? Because its Apple Bullshit?

So basically you went into an Apple store to be some sort of Android super hero, and people were less than enthusiastic of your already proven findings?

In a matter of weeks these forums have gone to the dumps.

Oh look, intervenient causing trouble again.

-Keep building straw houses.

OP, good job. But no, the iP4 doesn't suffer these problems because Apple says so.

I apologize for not seeing the merit behind someone going to a store of something they clearly have disdain for, trying to prove a problem that has already been proven and admitted, and attempting to be a spokesman for a phone that people in that store clearly have no interest in.

Yes, the OP has disdain for it despite being a previous iPhone owner.

here's a thought!

Maybe the OP just wanted to see it for himself... Huh? ya think maybe that's it?

And as for showing it to others.. I say BRAVO.. Get the word out, try to open a few eyes.. Even a slight reason to question commandant jobs and MAYBE just maybe get them to realize that their are other options out there!

Good job OP!!

kind of similar to what you do here? lol

and the way i took it he went to check them out, tried the grounding issue to see what happened, and when someone asked what he was up to, he simply told her the truth. if the forums have "gone to the dumps" why are you still posting? just curious :D

Get this right, I did not go to the apple store just to slam their product. I went there to check out the iphone 4 for myself because I have never played with one before. Read my opening post again if you still dont get it. Its so happen this lady notice us playing around with the antenna and decided to ask us some questions. I wasn't expecting to answer any before i went. But since she asked me anyway, I thought id just give her my honest opinion about it. And since I am an android user, I would obviously side with android and diss the iphone.

Oh and Intervenient, that lady wasnt very tech savvy so she kinda misunderstood the antenna thing. In fact, she wasnt exactly sure what jailbreaking was, what it does and how its done. She has no idea that it has recently been made legal by the US government and that it has become so simple to jailbreak that any idiot could do it. She thought the bumper case fixed the antenna reception when in actual fact it only prevents it from happening. The only way to fix the antenna is to redesign it. Speaking of which, i had a friend who just told me to just avoid holding the bottom left corner of the iphone 4 because there is actually no real problem with it other than the reception. I have never face palmed for so badly in my entire life. -.-

To be fair, I'm not a fan of Apple, and you're right, the original design has a flaw of dropping calls. They came up with a cost effective simple solution to the problem. If phones with bumper case no longer drop calls, then I consider the problem solved.

IF they discovered this problem before the product was released, and they had to redesign the phone, they could either spend hours designing a new antenna, or they could put a bumper case around it and release it. Either way the problem would no longer exist. The latter solution has a trade off of appearance, whether it's a disadvantage is subjective, as the bumper case does offer better protection as well.

You guys are totally missing the point. i already said I weren't there without the intention of dissing a product. I wasn't expecting anyone to shoot questions at me, yet you guys thought I went there armed with all sorts of responses to shoot back at any apple fanboys. If I wanted to be an android prick, I would have done it long ago.

Someone neutral asked me some questions, how else would you Expect me to reply her? Say iphone 4 is the best phone ever even though the antenna is flawed? How would you have handled it? I'm really curious. -.-
