Grandfathered Alltel Plan and Problems

Just thought I'd post this as an FYI for all who kept their alltel plans but got a Droid Incredible (or any VZW phone).

I had the smartphone plan with Alltel. $90/month and unlimited data, texting. Kept my plan when I switched to a Droid Incredible in April whe they were released. Everything was great until I took a vacation to see friends.

I live in TX and went to KY to see friends. Used the phone like normal all the time I was gone. Got home and the bill came in. I was hit with $70 worth of roaming fees! I had the nationwide plan with no roaming fees.

When I called about the bill, I was given the speech that basically says, Your plan doesn't exist anymore, we can't help you with roaming fees, if you don't want to have roaming fees in the future, you need to change to a VZ plan. Tried to calmly inform the lady that I should have been grandfathered, that even if my plan "didn't" exist anymore, it should have been honored.

Hung up on her, a couple of minutes went by, and she called back. spent over an hour on the phone with her discussing the problem. I finally just switched to a new plan. I hated too, I don't think it's as good of a plan as what i had, but I don't want to worry about roaming fees every time I leave home.

just my .02 of what I encountered.

Im a former Alltel user in Florida and have gone from a HTC TouchPro to a BB Storm2 and am now awaiting the shipment of my X. Through it all my plan has not changed. Apparently different states treated the merger and grandfathering differently. I know in NY and TN if you switch phones they want to make you change to a Vzw plan. But in FL you can keep yours. Screwy aint it?

Yea it is! I went from a Moto Q9C to the Droid Incredible. Love the phone! As long as I stayed around home, I had no problem with my bill, everything was normal, charges were the same as when I had my old phone. When I went on vacation, and used my phone, then I was hit with all the roaming charges.

Travelers beware if you kept your old Alltel plan!
