Google Account or Phone Issue?

I am having an issue with the Gmail and Talk app on my Evo. I noticed this problem at the beginning of the week, when my Talk was going off line and saying "Lost connection to sever. Messages will be sent when online." This happened anytime the phone was idle for more than a couple minutes. I changed the seetings in Talk to automatically sign in, and uncheck the option to set status to away when the sceen is turned off. This did not help, so I made sure my data-always-on setting was on, and it is. Sometimes it would not even tell me it was offline until I tried to send a message, then it would give me that error. Other times, all my friends will be greyed out for a couple seconds until it reconnects to the server.

This is an Evo I got replaced by RadioShack on Friday, 7/16, since I was having sceen issues with my first one. I never had any issues with my orginal phone.

Yesterday, I was noticing a lot of my Gmail messages were coming in in groups, and normally when I was using the phone. Today, I sent an email to both my gmail account and myemail@mydomain.net email which is managed by Google, and neither of those emails were recieved until I turned my sceen on and started doing things on it. I have also noticed that if I turn my sceen off, background downloads pretty much come to a halt. Like I said, I have my data to always be on, so this is not the issue. I am using mainly 3G for data. I have done about 5 hard resets, and tried my Talk client before installing any apps or setting up my second Gmail account, and this didnt help the issue either.

None of these behaviors were typical of my old phone, and I have not seen anyone describe a situation like this. I have found hundreds of posts about Google Talk disconnecting issues, and they all seem to be account related, but using these accounts on my old Evo was never an issue.

Now I am at the point where I am about to send this phone to the people at Will It Blend because that would be very rewarding. Please help me with this issue. Should I contact Sprint, Google, HTC? All of them? Should I take the phone back to RadioShack and get a new one?

I am sorry for the essay, but I am trying to give as much information as possible to help in fixing this issue, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have background data and/or sync turned off? If that's off, the phone won't transmit/receive data without the screen on. Also, you can try clearing the local data to see if that has an effect (see below). I doubt it will, but it might.

I have a similar problem. My contacts won't sync. Haven't been able to sync them since the 14th. Doesn't matter whether I'm on wifi or 3g, day or night, I've tried and tried and the contacts won't sync. All other programs automatically sync properly, even gmail and calendar, just not contacts.

Try clearing out the cache. Bring up your installed applications through settings, find the Gmail and/or Contacts (I forget if they're separate and don't have my phone in front of me), bring it up and clear the local data.

I doubt it would be anything in the background because the was happening after a fresh factory reset (the Talk portion of the issue at least). Ill look into batch processing as I am not familiar with this, and see if it could be the culprit. If you could explain a little more that would be appreciated.

Thanks
