Who is stuck with At&t because of your family?

Everyone knows that At&t is probably the worst major carrier in the US to be on if you want an Android device. So there has to be a reason you are praying Samsung announces the issues with the Captivate are fixable, or you would have jumped ship by now to have dozens of choices at the other carriers.

For me, my wife just got her first ever iPhone and she refuses to try anything else. She's a big fan of the "Sims" type of games and Android doesn't have many of those games in the Market yet. It doesn't make sense money wise to have us on different carriers. So I'm stuck with At&t and a Captivate that I wish could perfrom to it's potential.

Anybody else in a similar situation? Maybe it's spouses, kids, or even work related?

When the iPhone 4 came out and it proved to me that it was the same phone with a front facing camera it made me wanna join the motorola driod x family. 1 reason why I couldn't. The wifey. She can't see herself without her i4. I told her the driod x has a bigger screen. She said, " another reason why I don't want it......it won't fix in my pocket."

so....here I am...still with AT&T. Not complaining though cause I like the Captivate. I just hope samsung stays on top of the updates. I have yet to checkout AT&T's other andriod phone. I think it's called a "Cappy" or something like that.

I was very unhappy with my att service but do do a family plan with my sister and her kids and a corporate discount my wife and I have two captivates with unlimited data/text/voice. Our bill runs about $109 a month. I can't get near this with verizon.
That being said I thought att was the major factor I had with our iphone 3gs. I couldnt make a call in our house, I had to go out on the deck. Both captivates have great call quality and fast data speeds even in our basement. I actually am starting to feel bad for saying al sorts of mean nasty things about att. The customer service is great and the guys at our local store are helpful. I have no regrets about renewing a two year contract.

My reasons for staying with At&t really have nothing to do with whatever phone I happen to be using. More personal experience with the different companies, and overall service.

When i had Verizon, their customer support was impossible to get a hold off.. i spent more then 2+ hours on hold quite a few times.. I constantly had dropped calls and area's with no signal. Given what I see today especially from people in my work office complaining about their signal.. I have no ambition to give them a second chance.

Sprint.. well.. I had nextel at the time (so yeah i'm talking a while back), anyways.. Sprint took over.. forced a $50 dollar rate increase on my 2 year contract before it was over.. CS fought me the whole time.. probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Thankfully I finally got a hold of someone who cared enough to help, removed the increase and canceled my contract so I could get rid of them.

With At&t I have yet to have a bad experience, the store in my area always has some top notch employee's in it.. they are great people that you can just sit down with and talk to for an hour, treating me like a person and not some random customer off the street. Service wise, in the area I live in and visit always have a signal.. even in the basement of my office (I personally enjoy laughing at everyone that has Verizon trying to make calls down there).

Overall I guess i'm not "stuck" with At&t more then they are "stuck" with me :)

If the Captivate ran stock or Froyo, I'd have no problem being on AT&T... but the phone AS IS makes me wish my family plan was on Verizon or Sprint. That or HTC makes a real GSM phone for AT&T.

I could go for HTC making a real phone on att. I wish I could find out more info about the HTC Desire HD (Ace) that is suppose to be out in October somewhere. Looks like a really nice phone. I've even heard it may have a 1.5ghz processor in it..

I was told by the AT&T Representative I had at the store when I got my Captivate that AT&T would be getting quite a few phones from HTC at the end of the fall.

The problem is HTC makes two types of phones... android and windows. I think I saw somewhere about a win7 htc device coming out later this year. He could be talking about that. :( or he could be talking about android. :)

In any case I don't know what to do. If only Samsung would just say for sure if this gps issue is software related or not... I wouldn't be worrying about upcoming phones and what I should do with the lack of options on at&t.

I'm stuck with AT&T by default, because the University of Chicago Harper Center has an AT&T tower inside the building.

However, I can't say that I am unhappy with it. I called complaining about my 9700 bold (which I got in December, so I'm not up for an upgrade). The customer retention offered me a Captivate for $140 (resetting the 2-year contract), which I then used for a week and am now doing an exchange for an iPhone 4.

It always seems like AT&T has the superior phones while Verizon has the superior network. That may not be true for android devices, or so people claim, but after having used android phones I feel like it's the same crap, different label. Every android phone has some unique awesome selling point and 2-3 things wrong with it that other android phones don't have a problem with.

This is how I feel. It's amazing to see how some of the Android fanboys make excuses "Uh! Well! It can access 4G! No, I don't live in a 4G city!" or "Yeah, it runs on Android...oh that's just HTC Sense covering it up, but Android is still there...somewhere..."

Chances of seeing that on AT&T are slim to nil. HTC's big handset coming to AT&T in the 2nd half of this year will be a Windows Phone 7 device.

The Desire HD will hit some international markets (many Europeans are hoping for it shortly), and eventually possibly hit canada. There's no indication of it coming to any US Market, let alone AT&T.

I guess I'm one of those rare people who's on AT&T by choice?

I had T-Mobile...their service was the best ...but their coverage? Not so much. Last I looked (a few months ago) they were still lacking in my area.

Verizon had better coverage, but horrible horrible customer service. My experience with them was so bad that I had to involve the state attorney general - who told them in no uncertain terms that their behavior was despicable.

My only experience with Nextel/Sprint was for a data card - the price was good, but that was about it. Coverage sucked, and the service wasn't much better.

I've been with Cingular (and now AT&T) for the last 6 years. The family plan I have isn't offered anymore (1100 minutes w/rollover) ... and I also get discounts through my workplace. The service is decent - not as good as T-Mobile, but no where near as bad as the other two. The coverage area is phenomenal - in all my travels, I've encountered one place where I had coverage issues (a remote part of New England), and even there I had a signal.

That's not to say I'll stick with AT&T for life...but until one of the other carriers can surpass them for my needs....I'll stick with them.
