Ok guys been a Desire user for 2 months now and enjoy finding new apps and widgets.

But Id like to know what apps other than the usual task killers and so on are worth getting. When googling for top apps everyone has the same results so im interested in what you wonderful people have.

Any hidden gems youve found? I love customising and just got myself Beautiful Widgets and has made me want more and more now :)

My desire is unrooted so post links/barcodes/and if its for a rooted device or not. Not really fussed on games until they can be installed to SD cards...other than that i like taking pics and customising.

So far I use -

Beautiful Widgets
Camera 360 Pro
Mini info
Springpad
3g watchdog
tCall Blocking
Vignette

Many thanks.......

Thread's been done before, but in the spirit of things, have a look at Stats as a replacement for 3G watchdog. You don't get the quick reference widget, but it also tracks your minutes and texts to make sure you don't go over on any part of your contract.

Stats v1.5.5 Application for Android | Tools

Another favourite, Shopsavvy is very good. Allows scanning of barcodes for apps etc, but also scanning of barcodes in shops to get price comparisons, both online and in local shops.

ShopSavvy (EVO fix) v3.6.6 Application for Android | Shopping

Handcent is also worth a look, more customisable than the standard messaging app if you're into texting.

Handcent SMS v3.1 Application for Android | Communication

Finally I'd thoroughly recommend Switchpro - It's very cheap, and allows you to easily monitor your battery and toggle things like wifi, data, GPS etc on and off, which helps make sure your battery lasts as long as it can, with as little effort on your part as possible.

I'm very happy with the Google.inc apps. Sky Map, Earth, Shopper, Goggles.

Last.fm is a fantastic app to work alongside your Last.fm account.

GameBoid is another great app. Love playing Pokemon Fire Red on the bus =D

Also keen on the Favourite Frequencies app, for detering pesky flies and mosquitos.

There's also "3G Watchdog" which is fantastic for keeping an eye on my data useage (as well as Your Orange)

The rest of the apps on the market are useless soundboards or €2.99 flags. I pretty much refuse to buy any apps until they use paypal.

Well it doesn't perform the function he's after for a start...

...An excellent point. I will now mumble some excuse about being tired, and skulk away. :p

Personally I just have an icon for stats on my homescreen. The extra click is a bit of a pain sometimes, but I haven't found anything that I like widget wise on the app market (Although the one the poster above linked to seems alright actually), so I'm happy to suffer the inconvenience. :)

Some more really useful ones

Docstogo - view and edit Office docs in gmail
Copilot Live V8 - this one is great - almost as good as a dedicated satnav device
Notes - encrypt all your data (passport numbers, tax file numbers etc)
Volume Locker - my favorite
Call Confirm - Use when I am fiddling with things and do not want to make an accidental call
Compass - all ways know which way your ring is pointing
SMS Popup

ChompSMS - can change colours, text, fonts, layout and backgrounds on message list and conversations.

3G Watchdog

K-9 Mail - view all email accounts on a single page and single-tap to check all accounts.

Dropbox - I have this app on my Desire, home PC and work laptop. Add any file to the Dropbox folder on any device and it gets sent to all other devices.

Weatherbug - comprehensive weather widget with forecasts and the ability to set multiple locations in addition to your current location.

FolderOrganiser - change icons and names of apps, folders and shortcuts. Takes a little time to get become familiar with, but it's worth it.

BattStatt - cool looking battery widget that shows text (eg. "FORTY TWO PERCENT")

Tjam - similar to BattStatt, this widget shows the time in text rather than numbers (eg. ELEVEN minutes past TWELVE PM AUGUST TENTH"
