Pictures from Droid's Camera looks like crap!

I am sitting here looking at some pictures I took with my Droid then uploaded them to Facebook and Twitter and they don't look good at all. Its like the colors are all faded looking. I have shot some nice looking pictures with my phone before but for some reason here lately they look horrible! Anybody else notice this with their phone when your uploading to a website? I do have photoshop mobile so maybe I should try and edit them first before I upload a picture next time.

I don't know...my pictures actually look really good. Now I have only uploaded them to Facebook but they do look pretty good. I do not use photoshop mobile either. Now, there was a time when Facebook was screwing up pictures and it didn't matter what you uploaded them from.

I have the same problem with my camera, and it is worse when you zoom. Mine look crappy on the phone itself thoo. Not all the pics just some. They almost look pixalated sometimes.

now this was advice I read elsewhere, so don't shoot the messenger, but some people cleaned the camera lens area, and the photo quality improved... probably not the greatest advice, but it may help

Are you new to phone cameras?

I had an LG enV before my Droid which took amazing pictures for a cell and then I got my Droid and was sorely disappointed in the picture taking quality. That is when I really learned that more megapixles doesn't mean better picture quality.

Very true, it has to do with the optics. Bad lens leads to subpar pics. I use Droid camera for quick 'n dirty snapshots. For good pictures I use a DSLR.

You are one picky dude if the quality I displayed is not good enough......for a phone.

Just got a replacement phone a week ago and hadn't checked the camera yet so I thought I would give it a try.
Shooting a picture using the gold button actually caused the phone to crash.

That was a first.

My original Droid shot much worse pictures than my iPhone.

I just took another picture after the phone restarted and it worked fine.

Not sure about the picture quality yet really.

Like I said in my earlier posts, the Droid camera is one of the worst ones I have used in recent years.

I don't expect DSLR quality, but I do expect them to keep up with the like of an LG enV.

You might want to try the photoshop app. Adding a tad more contrast and saturation will help the photos pop more if they look washed out.

Nope, but it took pictures with vibrant colors. The detail was about the same.

It does have a very nice camera for a phone. That said, I don't think it's that much better than the droid's. The only complaint I have with the droid is low light pictures. In daylight, I think it's pictures are more than adequate.

Both of my daughters had the LG Envy and their pictures did not seem noticeably better than my pictures on my Droid. The pictures displayed above seem entirely adequate for any phone in my opinion. I want clarity on a cell phone picture generally speaking...and most cell phones have crappy clarity with very, very soft images.
You can warm up images in Photshop but it is hard to make clarity when it just isn't there in the original image.
For me at least if I can look at a picture shot on a cell phone and not realize it was shot on a cell phone then I feel pretty happy.
My Ex has the Nikon DSLR but I have a Cannon IS2 and shoot a fair picture usually.

Unfortunately I don't. I had that phone before I was doing the FB thing and I never got a cable to pull things directly off the phone.

Pro DSLRs do NOT oversaturate (not even prosumer cams do that). If you just want more vibrant colors, it is very simple to add saturation by post processing. It's not as easy to desaturate if some of the colors are blown out. Mr. Yuck's first examples are really not too shabby for a phone...

I don't think anyone has been talking about over saturated colors. My point is about the difference between under-saturated vs. what one would normally expect. The photos posted here have all been under-saturated.

The Droid has an ok daylight camera. But try taking a picture in medium to low light. I can tell you that comparing the Evo's camera to the Droid's under medium to low light is unbelievable. I was at a wedding recently and my friends Evo took truely great pictures of the "First Dance". My Droid on the other hand took a whole lot of grayed out blur.

It's all about size (lense size that is). No lense wiping or software will ever fix the fact that they undersized the optics.
