Anybody having problems after importing contacts from another phone?

I do. For instance I couldn't find a contact named "Mr XXX" if I started by typing "Mr". I can, however, find him by simply typing "XXX". Anybody else go through that?

I also had two contacts numbers mixed together automatically by the phone. Their names were: "XXX @ Cemex" and "YYY @ Cemex". The phone fused them together!! Anybody had that happen to them too?

I hope someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks in advance.

I guess I'm the only one that has problems finding a contact because of the way the Droid searches for them.

I guess I'm the only one that has had different but similarly spelled contacts fused togehter.

I guess it's about to...

It would help if you explained, in detail, what you did to arrive at your current problem. Gettin the 'right' help will be based on what prefaced your results.
I tried to but let me start over with one of the issues:

  • -I have several contacts that start in "Mr Whatever" (without dot)
  • -When I search in contacts, as soon as I press the space bar after "Mr", it shows me no contacts whatsoever.
  • -BUT if I search in the same contact list by typing "Whatever", it does show "Mr Whatever" there.

Hope it's better understood this way.

Yeah, mine insisted "Laurie" should be merged with "Lauren". I'd set them up separately and it would go ahead and merge them under Laurie. I split them out and it just popped 'em together again, no matter how I did it.
I ended up just adding a last name for Lauren and it keeps them separate now.
I too had to change something else in order to prevent this kinda thing. I don't like that, even if it's a "smart feature."

Its obvious that you are having search issues. Stating the problem again doesn't tell us "how you got there". The information you failed to provide was:

- Are the contacts all generated on the DROID or did you import them?
- If you imported, what phone did it come from?
-Was a desktop mail client involved?
-Were they SIM contacts or Outlook, etc?
-How did the contacts get on the Droid? Numerous import methods.
-In what format were they when they got there?
-What program or transfer methods were used?
-What are you using to search contacts now that they are on the DROID?

I thought the info I gave was clear enough, but now I realize there's many other details involved.

They came from an LG enV Touch.

All from that phone.

At the Verizon store. Not sure how they imported them.

Not sure. I just know they're there, but I can't find them by literal alphabetical order.

The Contact list, not the Favorites list.

That's all I know. Hope it's enough.

Actually, I had a completely separate set of contact list issues.

1) Why oh why does it insist on listing first name first... ALL of my old phones sorted by last name
2) I exported my contacts from my Helio Ocean to a .csv file, only to find the Ocean keeps contact information in the wrong columns. Took about a half hour to go through my contact list and get all the numbers in the right fields before importing them to Google contacts.

... that's about it. everything else works fine.

I had several of my contacts combined together also when switching from an BB Curve to the Droid. Some of the contact names disappeared but their phone number is now under a different name. It sucks when you have 500+ contacts and you have to go though each one and sift through all contact information to make sure it is right.

I totally feel you. I guess it fuses them together when it estimates they're the same person. I think most people don't like to that feature.

I think we'd all like to have the option of searching for contactas by alphabetical order or by any part of the contact's info (name, address, etc.).
