Nitpicking Screen

Okay, so as my 30 days draws somewhat near I'm starting to go over my phone with a fine toothed comb it seems.

Today when I switched my live wallpaper to the default blue sea I noticed a faint grid design noticeable on the screen. The grid seems more noticeable the darker the screen settings are. When I turned the brightness up beyond 50% it isn't quite as visible.

Anyway, I don't notice it with most of my wallpapers and it's not something that is terribly obvious. I don't expect a flawless screen on a smart phone, but if mine is below par I'd like to exchange it.

So, is this the norm? Am I just nitpicking? Let me know how yours looks at lower brightness settings with blue sea turned on. It shows up even better for me with the "phone locked" screen up.

I think that's just the sensor grid for the touchscreen you are seeing there.

My vibrant has diagnol lines forming a grid pattern. That's normal. What's not normal is the chemical glue or some type of chemical residue under my screen it forms weird stringy residue under my screen. Only visible at angles when screen is off. Anyone else?

PS the lines on my screen are more horizontal than diagonal. Think I might go into the at&t store after work today to compare.

Do you notice it on areas of solid red or blue, but not green? If so, it's an artifact of the pentile matrix the SAMOLED screen uses, not a defect of your particular unit. You don't see it in green areas because the green pixels are twice as big as the blue and red ones.

Its in areas of solid blue mostly (like the blue sea screen saver as I mentioned). If it really is something that is a part of the technology and not a defect, that is reassuring, thanks.

How strange, my grid pattern is deffinately diagnol lines and not horizontal. I can't imagine why the grid pattern would be different between vibrant and captivate. really odd.

now only if this stupid stringy glue or chemical residue wasn't there, along with the blue tint. UGH. but ya the stringly glue residue is pissing me off, i'm going to do an exchange whenever I have the time since nobody else seems to have this residue.

Well, I don't remember having the issue with my old phone and just stopped by the AT&T store and didn't notice it on the display model. To be fair it was bright in the store and it was hard to even notice on my phone.

I think I'm going to take it back though, I can't even look at the phone without seeing the lines going through the display anymore.

odd, i've noticed the grid pattern on every vibrant i've played with, also its on the htc droid incredible phones too, and the htc mytouch slide. Chances are your next phone will have the grid pattern too, its suppose to be there. unless you are talking about some other grid pattern than the one thats on all of these phones.

Hrm, I just wish I had a second one here to verify that it isn't just my phone. I really didn't notice it at all on my first one, and I'm picky. I don't want to take it back because other than that and the gps (which I'm crossing my fingers is fixed w/ a software update) I don't have any issues.... but if I find out later that it is indeed a defective unit, I'm going to be pretty upset.

I tried taking pics last night with no luck.

I went into the at&t store this morning and the sales rep immediately saw what I was talking about. (It was an overcast day, I couldn't really see it in the store yesterday). She gave me a new phone with no complaints. The new screen isn't perfect, I mean if I REALLY REALLY look, I can see some lines still... but I wouldn't even know they were there if I hadn't had my last phone where they were quite clear and very distracting when I was in dim light.

Again, the best way to spot it is with sea blue screensaver on, a dimmed brightness and a low light setting.

Almost every capacitive touch screens have grid patterns. The screen needs to be off, and you have to tilt the phone at a certain angle to see it. Rest assured even though you may have not seen it, your phone has it.

Heh... well any artifact that is only visible with the screen off, and at some sharp angle, is hardly of any consequence.

Don't know about you, but usually the screen is on when I'm using and looking at it...
