I've seen it, touched it and I want it.

My BIL works for Sprint as a test engineer. He field tests devices locally, (Overland Park, KS). I got to see the Epic and mess with it a little yesterday. I currently have an EVO. I am going to give the EVO to my daughter and get an Epic The first week of September. Thats when I am due for an upgrade. Not knocking the EVO by any means. I am running 2.2 on that and it is nice. However, I prefer the Epic. The screen and the hard keyboard are what sold me.

I can say that the GPS worked flawlessly. The video is better on the Epic and in side by side comparisons, the Epic is slightly faster in download speed on 4G and wifi. Not astoundingly faster but slightly faster. The Epic was running 2.1 BTW. It is a little thicker than the EVO of course but it is lighter and feels nice. I love the keyboard. I came from years of Blackberry and this keyboard is almost as nice as far as feel. I do prefer the sense UI to the Samsung but it isn't at all bad. The Epic has a much better sound through headphones, very nice. I would put it on par with an ipod as far as that goes.

The screen is noticeably smaller on the Epic. You wouldn't think .3" would make much difference but it is. The surrounding bezel is bigger on the Epic, so that may have something to do with the size perception. I wasn't around it all day but he told me the battery was "fair". I don't have a lot of problems with my EVO battery either as long as I'm not on 4G all day. Anyway, it is a sweet device and I am looking forward to owning one.

I debated posting anything because I knew the "pics or it didn't happen" would be said. No, I didn't take pics. I actually thought about it but didn't ask if I could. I didn't know I was going to post here then. It was a spur of the moment decision I made. Honestly, this is the first time I have been in this section of the forum.

@dyh, No I didn't ask and he didn't offer. I know it will be pretty soon though because once he takes a device home, he is in the final steps of testing. He's to the point now of testing the radio on calls. That is usually the last step. I know when he took the Pre and the BB Bold home for radio call testing, they were released within just a couple weeks.

I feel like this is a legit review. They probably are in the process of field testing the devices and it's good to hear that 4g works well with it.

I can't understand why someone would take the time to post a fake review on a cell phone. Why would anyone do that?

because this is the internet and people make things up. There was a guy who did the same a few weeks back.

I understand your skepticism and that's fine. You are right, people do things like that. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I am only saying I got to mess with it a little and that I like it. I opened myself up to it because I posted about an unknown.

Well, and unlike the other guy, you've bothered to stick around and at least post a few replies.

Again I'll be an optimist here and say thanks. If you are making up - oh well - nothing gained nothing lost. :p

Awesome POST... I believe EVERY word that you have typed...
Yes, there is a noticeable size difference between 4.0 and 4.3...lol...
I had a friend, who got a Droid X... and it is Gargantuan...

But I love the fact that you made mention of the Sound output from the headset being SOOOOO much better, almost on par with the Ipod...lol...

I have an Ipod Touch, and I have had an EVO (returned it before 30 days was up) in preparation for the Epic... unfortunately, my 30 days ended July 16th, so I am experiencing SERIOUS GOOD android phone withdrawel symptons... to the point of having to go out and get a Moment... but I noticed that the EVO's sound output to my car's auxilliary port, was not half as strong as my Ipod Touch's... and of course, I have been looking for something to replace my Ipod touch...

I thank you for your review, and reknewing my hope...

As a side note... I don't know about anyone else... But after playing with my Friends Vibrant on several different occasions... I have noticed that it has slowed down tremendously.... whereas, when I had my rooted, EVO with various MODS (wireless -N, 30fps, additonal ROM's... etc..) it ran smoothly for the final week that I had it. Blazing fast... is the word for the EVO... compared to other Android phones...

I now have the Samsung Moment, and it is a nice little phone, outside of the horribly UGLY and unusable (from a guy coming from the Evo and from the Touch Pro 2)keyboard, the radio failures, and the ugly slow GPS....

Well the X is so large because Moto build it to 16:9 aspect ratio which makes the phone so much taller at 4.3", the Evo doesn't feel quite as big, but 4.0" screen is fine, I mean 4.3" is nice but 4.0" would be the standard in my book.

Did you have the opportunity to use the Epic as a phone? I switched from the Hero, which was a really good phone and internet device to the Moment, which is pretty good as a pocket internet source but SO BAD as a phone, IMO, because I really needed a physical keyboard.

I was all set to give the Evo a go, hoping that my thumbs would work better on the larger screen and then I heard about the Epic, so decided to wait until I could look at them both. I am thoroughly dissatisfied with the Moment, I can tell you that! Thanks for your post on the Epic.

Yes the phone worked fine. The GPS worked fine, everything worked fine. If it was a piece of junk, I wouldn't be waiting for it and would just keep my EVO and be happy with that. That wasn't directed at you scarletslipper. I just keep reading all these people talking about the Samsung being junk, the GPS won't work, there must be a problem because it hasn't rolled out yet, the date has been pushed back etc. It is fine. It worked perfectly, he was testing it and has to test them out of the box stock. If he identifies a problem, they report the issues and turn them in to be worked on and retested. He said he had no problems with it the 3 weeks he had it.

At any given time, there are multilple units of the same device being field tested all over the country. It isn't likely all the components work in Overland Park Kansas and don't in Houston or Miami. I am speculating here but I think it passed all the field tests and are probably in the process of training personnel on them, stocking distribution centers, getting the computer system set up for them and will be dropping it within the next two weeks or so. Just a guess but I have picked up a feel for how they work. He's been there for 22 years and has been my brother in law for 25. So, just call it a good guess.

Just wondering, whats with all the ellipses? Is that taught as a proper grammar/punctuation somewhere? It just doesn't make any sense, you are making your text less readable and spending extra time to do so.

Might want to check out ESL Forums, Teach English, Learn ESL online . This is a tech based forum. Who cares if his grammar/punctuation is off? There's no need go pointing it out. Just ignore the post.
