Help Android 2.2 update

The update for android 2.2 just came out for the evo, what are our chances on the moment or is 2.1 better ?

Sprint has already announced the the Moment and HTC Hero will not be getting 2.2 via them.

So yeah, if we get 2.2 to the Moment it will only come via an unofficial source and even then it might not come with many advantages over the current unofficial roms already out there.

The Intercept is a newer phone. Samsung gave up on the Moment with the issues they've had with it, and basically told people go low end(Intercept) or high end(Galaxy S)

Sprint and Samsung announced awhile ago that the Hero or the Moment won't get 2.2 from many sources. Twitter is one of them. But with this logic, why didn't the g1 get even an official 2.1 update? The Moment had too many issues for Sprint to want to support it any longer.

The fact that the moment came first is why they announced some time ago that it won't be getting the 2.2 update. The maketing plan is to sell expensive devices and basically make people sign 2 year contracts to be able to afford them, then discontinue support for them after a year or two so people will feel the need to do the process all over again to have a phone with all of the bells and whistles. They've been doing this for years.

Seems like the moment is outdated already. Friend of mine got the Evo and it ticks me off cause he complains about his battery life after sitting in work messing with it for almost 2 1/2 hours. I can never get 30 minutes out of my moment before it "powers off" because the battery is dead. At 1st I got the moment and thought it was the best thing out. I guess technology is changing to fast. I think as soon as I can get a 1 year upgrade Im going to the Evo. (Dec 1st). They have no plans on improving the moment or battery life on it so its time to move on.....

Moment life only lasts 30 minutes? Must be an app problem or a problem with your Sprint coverage. I get at least 6-12 hours out of my Moment.

If it's a coverage problem, won't matter what phone you get, they'll all die quickly.

I've never had the phone die in less than 3 hours, and i live in a terrible area for coverage. I do agree with Android, I used to have apps that kept running that killed the battery. Find if there is one and kill it, this will help a lot. I am running the DC13 1.2 non-jit ROM and loving it. Battery is the best it has ever been on my phone. Try different ROMs, all phones act differently. Good luck.

I have tried everything since I got this phone. App Killers, shutting down apps, disables GPS, Maps, etc. And its bad. I have a very good signal, and its the same. I charge it all night, get to work and its fine for the phone, but If I was to be on the internet I can get no more than about 25 minutes out of it before its "recharge battery". I come home and fully charge it again and leave it off the charger from say 6pm to 6am, its showing its charged. Soon as I start text messaging or getting on the internet, the battery will die in about 20 minutes. I kinda feel bad cause a guy in work bought the moment on my recomendation about 4 months ago and all he hates the battery life. I spend more time trying to text and type with the keyboard not lit and the screen dim because the battery goes down so quick.

sounds like a faulty handset or battery. sprint will replace both if you explain the problem. battery life with the moment will never be great but i get about 6 to 8 hours with moderately heavy use (txt, ims, email, web browsing, pandora, watching movies, etc)

Agreed. There is something else. How warm does your phone get when doing these things. A bad battery usually has a higher heat once being used and the heat dissapates the charge much more quickly.

I think Im going to look into a new battery. This one does get pretty warm after about 5 -10 minutes of texting and being on the phone.

Completely different hardware and though I'm far from an expert on this, not easy at all.

But couldn't someone just take the OS off of the Droid and optimize it for the moment and change the screen resolution, etc... Idk I guess I'm not thinking hard enough.

It's not screen resolution, it's drivers for every piece of equipment. The basic OS is the same, the drivers are for the most part all proprietary and completely different between devices. The best chance the Moment has to get usable 2.2 would be for Samsung to release it for a comparable model like the Intercept. Otherwise the devs have to adapt 2.1 drivers and stuff from other phones making it likely that we will never see a completely stable 2.2 Moment. Personally, I'd take 2.1 with a functional GPS and no lockups and be happy.

Ahh, I see now. I really thought it was an easier process than that. I'm pretty happy with Radioactive Froyo 1.8.7 on my phone for now. Haven't had any lockups in a while. Wish the Browser was faster and less jittery.

what moment users are not getting is that the intercept shipped as a low end android phone,the people who went ahead and got it are the smart ones.hell we get 2.2 for a steal but alot of people dont know that samsung or whoever limits these smartphones.they have the technology in them and the rite software but samsung or whoever puts their limits on them,thats why once you root your able to to change EVERYTHING.its not that the moment is old or they "cant" support it,its just that they want you to buy another phone.wether its cheap or not.at 100 dollars a peice just imagine if people all over america bought one? but where they messed up is letting 3rd party people sell their phones,got mine free lol but anyways my friend has the moment and i rooted it for him and put a really god rom on there and his works good.xda developers and others have really good roms that to me seem better than the ones that ship on the phone

I just noticed that the Samsung Spica has Android 2.2 via root available for them. And I believe the hardware on the Moment is similar to the Spica and maybe someone can port 2.2 on the Samsung Moment.

I think it has something to do with people paying for a shitty phone are the lucky ones or something. I didn't get it either. I'd rather have a rooted moment running 2.1 than that pos intercept running 2.2.
