Tasker must only be for geniuses

I am in the medical field and this application is making me feel really dumb. Is there a good tutorial on how to use this thing or what? I have checked out a few resources on the web and youtube along with threads here but it seems everyone's questions are well beyond where I can even understand what they are asking.

Can someone help me out and let me know how to make my GPS turn on with certain apps and turn off when they close. I also want it to turn GPS on when I go into car dock.

I really hate asking for this kind of help because I want to learn how to use it so I can really get good use out of it but it's just giving me a headache right now.

thanks for this. I remember seeing this page and followed the directions to a T for the GPS auto launch and it doesn't work. Or at least I missed a crucial step to making tasker active or something. I chose to apply the task but when I open maps nothing happens.

It kills me to see all this thing is capable of and feel like I need to hire a Geek to configure my phone for me.

It's been so long since I installed Tasker from scratch that I don't remember what the default is, but the first thing that comes to mind (considering nothing seems to work) is... when you first open Tasker there should be a button on the lower right to turn Tasker on/off. It should say "on".

The second thing is that once you've created a profile you need to close Tasker using the the hardware "Back" key, or the "Apply" button in Tasker. If you leave Tasker by pressing the "Home" key, the new profile won't have been saved yet and won't actually do anything.

Try adding a "Flash" action to your Enter Task (Flash appears in the Alerts category) to make a message appear on screen when the Enter Task runs. It doesn't matter what the message is, we're just looking for some confirmation that the Enter Task is in fact running (or not) to try to narrow down the problem.

If the flashed message doesn't appear when you expect it to, try going to the Task Edit screen where you added the Flash action, and use the Test button to see what happens when you tell Tasker to run the task without any context.

Did the flashed message appear? If not, what happened when you pressed the Test button?

Also, since you've looked through some of the other threads, you've seen how others have written out their descriptions of their profiles and tasks. I know it may sound silly since it should be a simple profile, but obviously something is wrong, and without seeing what you're doing it's hard to tell what's wrong.

I smiled ear to ear when I read your title. I know just how you feel! I've only been using Tasker for a short time, and in the beginning nothing would work for me and it was all so confusing. However, I was determined to figure it out and eventually started catching on. I'm sure you will, too.

Have you found the Wiki yet? It has some walk-throughs and some working profiles you can read through and download to get you started. It's available here: About - Tasker Wiki. It also has a very active forum.
