Outlook sync

Hi,

I recently got a Hero in Hong Kong, for use in the UK.

It is a great phone, and fun to use, but I am some problems with sync.

I am using Windows 7 (retails) and Outlook 2007 - Got HTC Sync working by following a work-around that required installation of the Vista drivers. This works ok.

The problems:

Contacts sync correctly between Hero <> PC (Outlook)
Calendars entries are only copied from PC > Hero. Calendar entries that are either modified or created on the Hero, are not copied back to Outlook.

I've done a search and haven't found any similar issues. Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

Chris

I got this working by making sure that the calendar entry on the appointment is set to "Outlook".

Still not that happy about it - I want to be able to sync all entries to my PC, regardless of whether they are set to "outlook" or "my calendar".

Is this a bug or just the way it works?

I'm sorry to tell you that HTC Sync is far from good. If I edit a contact in Hero and then sync. The updated record in Hero will be overwritten by the old record from my PC.

So I have to keep telling myself to only edit record in Outlook. What a shame!

I've been getting that impression. It is a shame, as it is something that the Windows Mobile devices do very well - at least the ones that I've had.

I had particular problems because I use categories in Outlook to separate work and personal calendar entries. The HTC Calendar does not support them and removed them.

My solution is to use Companion Synchronize to synch my Outlook calendars to Google Calendar and then from Google to my phone. Companion Synchronize syncs each Outlook Category into a separate Google Calendar. These then appear on my phone, colour-coded (I use the excellent Pure Calendar widget to display appointments but they are colour-coded in the HTC app too). It all works remarkably well in both directions - I can select the Google Calendar I am creating an appointment in on my Phone and it appears in the correct Category in Outlook. The only problem is that Companion Synchronize is fairly expensive.

I am still not sure whether I fully trust Google with my personal data, so at the moment I am only doing this with Calendar entries. I still use HTC Sync for Contacts and have to spend a lot of time sorting out the mess it leaves!
