I want to upgrade from my D1 to the D2, unfortunately I only got my D1 back in May. Anyone have any tips to get the D2 at a discounted price without paying the retail? I have someone on my line who is upgrade eligible but does not want a data plan, is there anyway they can give their upgrade to me or something?

upgrade their phone to droid 2, then give them your droid then swap esns

OR

upgrade their phone to droid 2, sell your droid 1 and swap their esn from droid 2 back to their current phone, and swap your esn from droid1 to droid 2

PROFIT

Sorry what is ESN? The problem is that they have a LG Chocolate 3, obviously doesn't require a data plan and they don't want a data plan. So I don't know if it's as easy as upgrading to a droid 2 because they would need to get a data plan, and I don't believe it can be dropped.

go into the store, they'll explain it for you, just tell them you want to use the other person's upgrade to get a droid 2, BUT, you actually want to have that upgraded droid 2 working on your phone number, and you want the LG to remain on it's current number.

the ESN is the serial number of the phone

order the phone using their upgrade.

recieve phone and call using other phone to customer service to activate. Tell them you used that lines upgrade, but want it activated onto your number. Win. No data plan for them, and you get a new phone.
