Help Quick Help - HTC Desire Overheating + Battery Improvement Tips

Hey guys - this is a really urgent post and would VERY much appreciate useful information (try to avoid getting too technical cause I seriously get annoyed by that sort of crap).

Basically I got a new Desire (unbranded) and I've had it for just over 24 hours. I've charged it 3 times (now its running on my third charge) and it only lasts around 3 hours. I use it pretty heavily but my screen display brightness is super low, wifi is only turned on, nothing else is turned on, and no phone calls, no texting, just mainly internet. I was surfing the net and Android market all together for around 2 hours (and did some Facebook stuff). All this and it only lasted 3 hours. I'm aware that loads say the first few days suck and I hope that the same thing applies for me. The thing is just charging the phone makes the back of the phone slightly warm. Nothing major but still warm which I fail to understand as to how charging a phone (and the display and everything is on low and everything is turned off) so thats a bit puzzling.

Also when I use the phone, it gets heated pretty quickly like after watching a YouTube video or listening to songs whilst surfing the web. Its nothing TOOO hot but fairly warm when my previous handsets never faced all this heating issues and I easily got a good 8 hours out of them after constant usage.

Is it normal to only get 3 hours of juice for the first few days? How can I improve battery life than the obvious (no app killing talk please because app killing does NOT work - just a whole load of BS). Also when connected to the FM radio, it only happened once but about 20 minutes into listening to the radio, the whole Desire froze and MAJOR lag. I hardly had anything installed then. Now I have around 15 apps, all fairly tiny ones and pretty useless (like joke apps).

Anyway - 3 hours of battery is quite worrying. I have no live wallpapers or anything installed, I'm using quite a dark wallpaper. So help would be appreciated. I've searched around a lot on the forums and everyone has said stuff that I already have tried (like screen brightness, stuff to turn off etc.)

If people could extend on their points and be specific about what to do to conserve battery power, I'd like that a lot.

Anotherthing is that I'm going to Egypt where the temperature is around 45 degrees celcius. I heard another guy say his Desire got messed up or something when he was in Texas, anything like that might happen to my phone? When I'm in Egypt, I only plan to use my phone to take photos and also play around on the apps. Any danger?

Advice is very much appreciated since I'm leaving for Egypt this weekend and should be back in a week so tips to make me survive throughout the week would be good. Whilst I'm in Egypt, all the stuff will be turned off apart from in the hotel if I manage to find a free wifi spot :p

So guys - help me out here!

IF you are using Wifi CONSTANTLY for 3 hours then yes, 3 Hours i normal.

No I dont understand bro - thats just bullcrap then.
I just had it TURNED on. Not use constantly. I used it with regular 15 minute gaps - each session lasting around 6-7 minutes. in total I woulda used around 40 minutes of internet so I dont quite get WHY it should die in 3 hours.

That's not normal. My wifi is connected all day and with a bit of browsing and a few text messages I get at least 16 hours, probably a bit more.

Download 'Spare Parts' from the market, select Battery History then at the top Partial wake usage and see what the blue bars say.

I recently got the Froyo update on my HTC desire. Once it had installed I noticed that the phone felt unusually hot. The battery life suddenly dropped and the phone went from full to empty in anything from 20 mins to 3 hours.

I tried all the usual things like turning down features and switching off wireless/mobile net, screen brightness etc. Tried to download various Apps to help and even trying to uninstall all Apps to see if that helped. Nothing made any significant improvement..the phone was still hot and the battery still useless.

I finally took the plunge and did a factory reset. Ta Da. The phone reset to 2.2 Froyo (so not back to Factory I guess as it came with 2.1). It is now cool to touch (as well as look at) and the battery is back to giving me at least a full days work with all the surfing etc I used to do. Finally I can enjoy Froyo without thinking that I had paid a massive price in battery life to have it. I have no idea what would have caused this battery drain but obviously something already on the phone had a conflict with Froyo or somehow Froyo hadnt installed correctly.

The reason I post is not only to help those with a similar issue after downloading Froyo but also to suggest a Factory reset to those who are getting really poor life out of their batteries. It may be the trick you need.

This has happened to me also, i did the update and was simply playing a game but the phone got so hot i could barley hold it. I turned it off and let it cool down for a while restarted and it was running normal again i will keep an eye on it but it was never this hot with 2.1. I will do the reset if it doesnt stop.

Glad to know its not just me though.:)
