Thinking of Trading Droid Eris for Moto X !! Help!!!

Ok so ...

I have had my Droid Eris for about 4-5 months now.. and i loved it and after hearing all the criticism about the Droid Eris.. I have came to love it alot..
I have spent my months rooting and fixing it up and im on this site 24-7 learning new ways to fix up my Eris..

well now after watching the many commercials of the Droid X.. Im attracting to it.. and without having to go look for all the tedious details and info i dont need..

I would really love for someone to tell me the neat facts and the pros and cons of the Droid X and helping me with my decision if i should dump the Eris and go with the X !!

Oh take it from me a former Eris user

Let's start with the short pros for the Eris
1)It is a sexy, compact device
2)Welll...that's all

BIGGEST CON FOR KEEPING:
Though the obvious lag didn't bother you(it killed me), the phone itself is outdated and dead. You will receive no more updates for Android such as 2.2 or anything beyond it...Unless you root and flash a stable rom or something

Droid X:
So much faster
Much better camera: 8 megapixels vs 5, Camera flash on X Vs No Camera Flash on Eris, HD recording on X vs whatever low quality is on the Eris

It is supposed to be getting 2.2 and Flash player 10 later on this month...The Eris is stuck with Diet Flash aka Flash Lite

Did i mention faster?

Blur is pretty cool though not as fluid as Sense(but Sense is getting boring)

Guaranteed at least a few updates from Verizon and Google for the next six months at least(that's a guess but im nearly certain)

Cons:
I have been absent from the forums but as far as i know, the X is rooted but you can't flash any roms or anything like that

Personally since you had the Eris for so long, I would just recommend an incredible...
It will be familiar territory and pretty much most of the same specs you can get in the X
you can get in the Incredible

and you can root and flash roms on the Incredible

I'm happy to hear that you've decided to go with the X. Just a heads up though. I honestly doubt you will be able to find a Droid X at a local Verizon retailer unless you wind up being pretty darn lucky. The device may have been released nearly a month ago now, but it's still in seriously high demand. I live in Omaha, Nebraska. You might think that because it's the Midwest that they're all small towns and such. Completely and utterly untrue. Omaha is actually a truly massive city, (and surprisingly quite industrious in many places). I checked every single Verizon retailer in the entire city and absolutely NONE of them have a single Droid X in stock in-store. They all say that none of them will have any in-store until the demand goes down and people stop ordering so many.

I recommend calling up retailers and stores in your town before heading out. Odds are good that no one will have one and you will need to order yours online, over the phone, or at your local Verizon retailer. However, if one happens to have a Droid X, NAB IT! These phones are still back-ordered and basically out of stock in most places.

Good luck getting your new phone. ;) I ordered mine on Sunday and am still waiting for order status confirmation and a tracking number.

Wow i just noticed your info says you're still with a voyager. I remember those days. My voyager made me hate touch screens and then the x made me fall back in love with them. I hope you get your x soon man ill be over here prayin. Lol

I have an Eris sitting on my desk with the newest build of Kaos Froyo overclocked to 806 and its still not half as fast as my X. I simply couldn't handle the lag involved in opening my email and other apps like the market. The absolute deal breaker for me that made me switch was the lag in the dialer. Making actual phone calls on the Eris was a nightmare for me.

Go with the X. Aside from not being able to flash roms you will love it.

I bought an LG Ally about two weeks or so ago. I exchanged it a few days ago, on Sunday, when I ordered my Droid X. I'm just using my old Voyager as a backup phone.

Yes, the pressure sensitive screen on the Voyager drives me nuts sometimes, but I'm used to it so for now I don't think I'll notice it much. If I ever have to go back to my Voyager after I've been using my Droid, I think I will notice a huge difference then.

However, the thing that always irritated me the most about the Voyager, was it's operating system. Verizon had this thing locked down with some stupid POS called BREW. You can't do jack with it. The only real hack you can do to it is replace applications like the EZ Tip Calculator with something like Tetris. Even that doesn't always function properly.

Oh well. It could be worse. I could be stuck with my really old VX6100 flip phone. That was my first phone and it was literally a hand-me-down.

If you live in a big city, you might want to wait for a LTE device.

Well no matter what you do there will always be a "bigger and better" device in a few months. That's just how technology works. Eventually you just have to get something that satisfies you and roll with it.
It is also worth considering that they might throw in a tiered data plan on any 4g phones.
I'm surprised Carmen didn't mention THE SCREEN!!! My friend has an eris and after using my X for a few weeks I can't even imagine using such a small screen. If you don't have super small pockets the size is not an issue and the screen space is an AMAZING pro!
So whatever you decide just be happy with it, you'll have a sweet android phone on Verizon.

The Eris was a great phone when it was the HTC hero that was out in the UK lol
but at least it has a new life out in Disney World haha lol

Yes i forgot to mention the screen :)

I briefly went back to an Incredible at 3.7 and i was like...THIS IS IT?

so i can't imagine having an X and going back to an eris at 3.2...i'd be like

Where is the rest of it haha

YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH THE SCREEN AND THE JUNK IN THE TRUNK :)
