Help Replace Lock Screen?

What is a good free lock screen replacement? I tried lockbot, but it changes style on every lock, and it has some weird bug where if I use the button to lock it, it goes black, then the unlock screen appears (screen doesn't turn off). I do not care much about theming it myself as long as it has a halfway decent theme to begin with, but I do not want to pay for it (yes, I am cheap :p ) and want to get rid of the lag associated with the default lock screen.

Widget Locker...but it isn't free.

Widget Locker...but it isn't free.

I was using widget locker for a bit, but was put off by how it operates. Mapping your home key to it, may not start correctly, etc. It didn't seem efficient. If anything, it felt more like an app that mimics a lock screen rather than a true lock screen replacement. What do you think about it? The last thing I need is an app that is always running, eating away battery.

Also, love that weather widget, which one is it?? And how did you change the theme of your status bar? That white on black is pretty nice.

I haven't had any problems with it at all. It takes some tinkering with the setting in order to get it set up properly but i really like it.

I have it too, and for the most part, I love the customization options. One issue I seem to have is that when I wake the phone up, it momentarily displays either the stock lock screen, or sometimes my home page, THEN widgetlocker kicks in. What's weird is in my Settings, I actually have the screen lock option turned off, so I can't figure out why that appears. But like I said, it's only for a split second.

Exactly! Always felt a bit like an app that mimics the lock screen rather than a true lock screen replacement. Wasn't as seamless as I preferred. Might give it another go in a few days...

This only happens to me if my phone has been asleep for more than a couple hours. I also have WidgetLocker randomly appearing or disappearing when I receive/end a phone call.. some calls it is there, others not. It's definitely a buggy app, and I'm not so sure if I would pay for it.

So the only good way to get rid of the lock screen lag is either pay for Widget Locker or disable the lock?

Pretty much...

I emailed the dev about that issue and he said it was a bug he was working on. We'll see if he fixes it. You've already paid for it though, right? The stock lag was killing me, so I wouldn't say that WL's funkiness eliminates that really. Not like an extra second or two is a big deal anyway.

I really like the ability to change the lock screen background and add widgets, so that alone was worth the $1.99.

Yea, I paid the $2. I purchased for different reasons than you though; to get rid of lag. Mine is definitely less laggy, but I do experience the same double locker issue when my phone has been asleep for a while (more than a couple hours).

The additional wallpaper doesn't do much for me. It is cool as I have a nice SF Giants wallpaper there now, but nothing I'd pay for. My locker page is fairly bare aside from a BatteryLife widget & calendar widget since I keep my widgets on my homepages.

You can turn that first feature off...just go to the playlist and uncheck the various themes except the one you which...

ive had problems with it too however...

Installed Lock 2.0 - Free and, while it lacks theming options and many other features in the free version, I find it much better than the default lock, and it works really well. It has a transition from the lock screen to the home screen, but it is super smooth and looks MUCH better than the default lock, while also removing the lock lag (where the lock slides over, pauses for a short time, then unlocks the phone).

You also cannot use a security lock with Lock 2.0 - Free, but I do not use one anyway so it doesn't hurt me any, but I can definitely understand why some wouldn't want to use it for that reason.

If you go to Settings, Location and Security, Security.... uncheck the screen lock box.
No more screen lock.

I want the screen lock, so I do not accidentally activate the touch screen when pulling it out or putting it in my pocket and end up having something running and what not, but I wanted to get rid of the lag it has. I have found Lock 2.0 Free to be the best option if you do not need the security lock but want the screen lock, and are not willing to pay for one.

Well it seems Lock 2.0 - free runs as a service and does something to stop the phone from sleeping, or at least has a bug that can cause the phone to not sleep. It was fine yesterday, but today, within 3 hours of unplugging my phone, it was down to 70% charge because it was not sleeping (I did NOT use GPS or any apps that use GPS). I restarted the phone and it had similar behavior without me launching any apps. After uninstalling Lock 2.0, it now seems to sleep properly and has only dropped 10% in the past 3 hours or so.

So thats another lock screen down, I think I am just going to have to put up with the lock screen lag until Froyo (hopefully its fixed).

That's unfortunate. I regret paying for Widget Locker because of its bugs. We can only hope for a 2.2 fix. :(
