Are these things related to my 2.2 update?

Last week I downloaded and installed the file from this forum for the 2.2 update, the FRG01B or whatever.

Since then:
- I cannot put my phone on silent. It will only go down to vibrate.

- Battery life has diminished. Went from lasting on average I'd say about 26 hours or so to now about 20.

- Some text messages don't go through to people I send to, and some sent to me don't come until much much later.

Now that I'm reading that the actual OTA update that is being pushed out again today is the same as what I forced last week, I'm beginning to consider just going back down to 2.1 so I don't have these issues.

Any advice?

1. yes its the 2.2. there was a crummy change on how it handle silent. Search here and you can find out specifics

2. impossible to say, to many variables. but if your rooted, you could load a kernel and then SetCPU and start messing with ways to conserve battery & control your CPU speed (increase, idle, etc). Or, use a TK.

3. heard of issues like this before 2.2. again, you could search here for them. me thinks it is not 2.2 related per se. BUT, I use Handcent as I think the stock message app sucks and have no issues.

you could go back to 2.1, but you will then be dealing with having to update to 2.2 anyway as you cannot put off the OTA update forever UNLESS your rooted. and since your rooted, I would look and search around for other methods to address #2 and #3 as #1 is just part of 2.2 and might only be fixed by a custom ROM or another app in the future.

my 2 cents

Oh, so since I loaded 2.2 on my phone myself I won't receive an update if another one is pushed OTA?

Also, I use Handcent as well.

And lastly, feel free to fill me in on the silent thing. I will search the forum, but if someone would like to tell me in this thread how to put the phone on silent with 2.2 that would be great.

Love you guyz :)

To change to silent you have to click the menu button>settings>sounds and then go to where it says vibrate and put it on never and it will go to silent then you can do the same thing to put it back to vibrate

My problem is that when I use the rocker pad to adjust down the volume it use to go to low volume then vibrate and then silent. It was convenient to simply put the phone to silent or vibrate using the rocker pad only. I have the phone set to "vibrate except when in silent mode" but when I use the rocker pad it skips the vibrate setting and goes straight to silent. What gives???

I did notice that in 2.1 sounds and display were one category and now they are separated.
