R2-D2 edition in September

Anyone holding out for the R2-D2 edition? I was looking at the R2-D2 edition, because in a previous Engadget Story they had a mock up that looked completely black. Now I'm thinking that was just a general Droid2 shot in low lighting that they photoshopped a picture of the lovable astrodroid on the screen of.

The press release said the R2-D2 edition says "will feature exclusive Star Wars content and external hardware designed to look like the trusty Droid from the film saga." That seems to indicate it will be painted in even brighter blues and whites.

So now I'm thinking I'll just get the Droid2 on launch and get an ultra-thin blue case. As much as I'm a Star Wars geek, I have a hard time seeing pulling the phone out in professional contexts with it painted up to look like a Star Wars character.

Oh no, everyone please wait for the special R2-D2 version. That will leave more standard models available. ;)

Not something I'm interested in but I can see people ordering the Droid 2 at release and planning to exchange them for the RD-D2 edition when they are offered (assuming it's within 30 days). Would something like that actually be supported? If not it is probably better to know that now.

Does anybody else find that the blue of the body or the grey/silver of the bezel to be much more noticeable in the picture included in the announcement today (http://news.vzw.com/images/releases/Droid2_Front_Open_LRG-H4-Web.jpg) than in some of the earlier 'sneak peek' photos in this thread http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-2/126305-more-pics-droid-2-leaked.html? I guess it could be the lighting in them but the picture in the announcement appears a bit more definite blue and silver than I expected.

I think that with the chrome and how deep the navy is, how the phone looks is going to vary wildly based on lighting conditions. I would trust the real-world photos of test phones and dummy phones.

EXACTLY. In that 360-degree view, the blue looks way lighter than it seems in person. It actually looks closer to black. The silver also seems way darker in person than in the 360-degree view,

Imagine all the women I could pick up with an R2D2 version of the Droid 2. I mean, just with the Droid 2 standard version I could get sooooo many. But with the R2D2 one, they would be flocking towards me.

it says it in the title and if you look around the stock d2 was getting around 1200 so def not a stock droid 2

A 1200 score on a droid 2 signifies the score could have been attained on a previous build of froyo... before the final build of froyo.

OR...

Besides benchmark scores are going to vary depending on what all is running, and if benchmark was performed right after a fresh boot.

So is dressing up like Darth Maul, and traveling to all the Star Wars festivals, so somehow I don't these people care about being over the top.

Personally, I would be embarassed to break this thing out to make a call in a public place. However, I could see some die-hards picking this up at full retail, for a second device just to use when in the appropriate setting. Plus, I can just about guarantee that some collectors will pick this up, and it will just sit in the box for 20 years.

PS - Since it looks like a decal, I wonder if it's removable? I would totally pick up this version if I could peel off the R2 stuff, and be one of the few with a white Droid 2. Now that would be badass. Wonder what the front looks like?

Definitely agree with you, I'd like to see a full 360 of the device first. Also, the idea of a white Droid sounds so SEXY! But yeah, this all depends on how much the price of this phone will be... I wish they would release that information sooner.
