Hey guys, there is a thread over at XDA on updating your PRI to 1.4 if you are stuck on 1.34. Ignore all the garbage about needing Unrevoked Forever, you don't. Here are the steps that seem to be working.

1. BACK UP YOUR PHONE USING WHATEVER METHOD NANDOID ETC
2. Get your MSL code either thru Sprint or using CDMA
3. ##786# wipe your phone
4. Reboot phone
5. Repeat steps 3-4 if it does not work the first 15 times!!!

Good luck

This tested and proven on TWO phones in my possession and by a few others here already posted
To do a complete wipe, you will need your MSL code. Call sprint and they can give it to you.

Type in ##786# into the dialer, hit menu and chose reset and punch in your MSL. Your phone will clear out all data and settings except for your SD card. It will then reboot and do hands free activation, check for a PRL and firmware update. Somewhere in there you should get a newer PRI.

You can check your PRI version in About Phone under Software Information. If you don't succeed at first, keep trying...and trying...and trying.

Restoring your nandroid backup will not overwrite the new PRI, so you can get your phone back to the just the way you like it.

I'm not sure if there is a difference or just a placebo. Web pages seem to load faster. Some pre and post speed tests might have been helpful but I didn't have the foresight to do that. :(

Edit:

You may be able do the same thing without wiping your phone. Not sure if the wiping is a necessary part or what yet.

Steps:
Dial ##3282#
Enter Edit Mode
Enter your MSL
Select Data Profile
Menu
Restore
Let Phone Reboot, and Wait and the Hands Free Activation will Start.
Repeat until you have 1.40 PRI.

If you rooted your evo with toast's method, you have the 1.34 PRI from the leaked pc36img.zip. It may be slowing down your data speeds and/or raising your ping, but no one knows for sure.

You can update your phone to the 1.4 PRI using the outlined method. It usually takes several tries, but it does work.

this thread lost about 6 replies since androidforums.com got its enema.

A poster gave great advice about calling sprint for the MSL, I just did so and also had a 30 minute conversation with the guy about evo and android in general.

there was a method posted about how to do this without a wipe. sprint tech guy (who was by far, BY FAR the most knowledgable one I've ever spoken to) said it shouldnt require a wipe, but of course he's assuming a nonrooted phone and I played dumb.

DO NOT TAKE THESE STEPS, THIS WAS JUST WHAT HE TOLD ME TO DO:
##<MSLforYourPhone>#
Choose Edit
Enter Phone Number
Enter Your MSID
In the menu, choose to commit
phone reboots
done

The steps on one of the missing posts had somewhat different steps. I'm not doing a dang thing till they are reposted.

found the info chrismmm posted on this thread on xda:

You will need to have your MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) from Sprint to do this. Dial *7 to contact support. Remember, you are not really supposed to have this but the first guy I talked to gave it to me, keep calling till someone does. What I told him was that I had accepted the OTA froyo update and my phone was requesting my MSL and had serious issues calling and texting, which is of course not true.

teps:
1. Dial ##3282#
2. Enter Edit Mode
3. Enter your MSL
4. Select Data Profile
5. Menu
6. Restore
7. Let Phone Reboot, and Wait and the Hands Free Activation will Start.
8. Repeat until you have 1.40 PRI.

tried twice so far, no luck. gonna keep tryin

could u post a link to the thread

They guy who posted the first thread had this backwards method, where he had you do about 17 steps, included installing unrevoked forever and flashing a mysterious pc36img.zip he had provided. Eventually everyone figured out he didn't know what he was talking about and that none of that was necessay. What was actually downloading it was the hands free activation. I didn't want to post that thread here because all those steps were total BS.

Another guy had posted about reactivating the phone to get a new PRI a few weeks ago, but it didn't work for the few people who tried it, so it was dismissed. This is also how the PRI was updated on a hero after rooting. Doh!

The thread cabbie posted should have all the info you need.

I got all the way to the part until commit then I chickened out. I'm on Fresh and Netarchy 4.0.3 Kernel.

I'm not gonna try it. Let's get Mikey. Hey Mikey!
