was offered 35% off of retail since i am not available for an upgrade. it was 370 but after taxes 412. I said ok and ordered but now that i think about it 42$ of taxes doesnt sound right. I can always call back and cancel since it wont be shipping until monday the 30th. Anyone have any insight?

Got mine for free and I wasnt even available for upgrade. I just threatened that I was going to cancel and they agreed to send me a new X when I had the incredible. Just make sure opt in for the survey at the end of the call when it asks you before they transfer to you customer care. Then let them know when you have them on the phone that you plan on slamming them on the survey. That will change their tune real quick. Dont flame me, its a great way besides they are over charging like crazy for this phone.

dont mean to flame, but "overcharging"? how on earth do you figure? the upgrade price is $199, and the full price is $569. Verizon pays motorola $550. that means, on every single one they sell, they lose $350. of course, they recoup that over the course of your contract, but that's why you sign a contract in the first place.

If you read the VZ Wireless agreement when making the purchase it tells you that tax is on the full retail value of the phone rather than the discounted price (i.e. when not eligible for an upgrade). The sale is really a transaction between the buyer and Motorola, with VZW acting as a middle man, subsidizing some of the cost of the phone, but leaving the buyer responsible for all taxes.

I don't see how it is legal to charge sales tax on any amount over what you are actually paying... I would complain and see if they fix it because, well, that ain't right.

It's the politicians in whatever state you're in that make the State tax laws, not Verizon. Verizon is just following state law. If you're going to complain, go to your state legislators. (and good luck with that, BTW, lol)

My experience when talking to politicians is, they will give you "lip service" but in reality it's like talking to a cement wall!
