HTC EVO with Froyo quadrant scores...not great.

Some people have gotten 1800/1900 scores on the Galaxy S with a tweak but the tweak made real-world usage terrible. These benchmarks are useless, especially when we don't really know specifically what they measure.

I haven't read any reports where the tweak has made usage terrible. Unless you are talking about the market issue, which has since been fixed with an addition to the tweak. Seems almost every person who has made the change remarks at how much "snappier" the system is.

Besides whatever 'tweak' you're talking about, there is a fix for an I/O error on the samsung galaxy s phones. Their quadrant scores are going from 850 stock to 1200-1400 after the fix. This actually does translate into a real world improvement because it fixes a lag issue and greatly improves the smoothness of the phone. A lot of people are getting 3sec pauses just to unlock the phone of even longer pauses when trying to open an email. Benchmarks are just a good way to verify there was a change.

He says the call quality is bad, buggy, cannot get GPS lock, and waking the phone takes 3-5 seconds.

His problem is the kernel is not for the U.S. phones. If you check the modaco forums, the folks that have applied the fix (on the euro phone)all say how much more responsive it is overall and I haven't seen any of them report any bugs with call quality etc.

Once there is a proper kernel for the U.S. phones (some one alluded to one being released possibly the end of this week), I think we will see an overall benefit with out the bugs.

I didn't feel it was condescending or holier than thou. People should be caring about how the performance feels to them, not how it scores on a benchmark. I'll confess I was all about benchmarks when I first heard about the scores devices were getting. But after handling the X, Evo and Vibrant, I didn't notice much of a difference that put the X above both of the other devices in speed, in fact, it felt slower. Of course, others may feel otherwise but these benchmarks are starting to get really silly. Perhaps with dual-cores on the horizon, the performance may justify the benchmarks.

The benchmarks measure performance more accurately than the human senses can, in an unbiased manner.

im sorry guys for jacking your guys thread. but i just ran this quadrant bench test on my phone doird X and its in the mid 700's. is that good or bad?

Compared to the other scores posted thats on the very low side for this phone, what type of apps do you have installed? Also what were you running at the time you did the Quadrant test?

i just ran a couple more test and it went up to 1200 and then down to 1089. so im confused on the lack of consistency. and i used the app killer to kill all the apps

Let's not worry too much about 'real world' performance since 95% of the people using smartphones aren't using them for 3D gaming. Most people use them for email, social networking, document editing/viewing, GPS navigation and even yes, watching TV or movies. The fact of the matter is the 3D acceleration and processor speeds over 528mhz don't do much for the average user. Sure, the UI is a bit smoother, but if you do a power cycle daily, the lags never appear anyways.

But to get back to the point, Benchmarks are like speedometers - sure your Ferrari will do 200mph and my Nissan will only pull 120... On the race track (benchmark tests), you'll kick my butt, but driving on the freeway (daily use,), we both have to run at 65mph and they both do fine.

The Galaxy line is 6 months newer than the EVO, has a Samsung Chipset, Screen and full design. It's been optimized for media and an entertainment experience. The question that really remains to be seen is how will Samsung support the line going in to the future. With the Moment, the phone was riddled with issues, software bugs and downright poor performance until the 2.1 update arrived.

Will the Galaxy suffer more issues from 2.2 than it has in 2.1? Will it run better or worse with the new JIT installed? There are newer devices in the pipeline that 6 months from now will dwarf the Galaxy - which is why we have to have that 1 year upgrade deal...

Overall, just enjoy your Evo or X or Galaxy and continue to support the amazing developers that do more for supporting your devices than the official manufacturers do, because 9 times out of 10, they fix the issues before the 'official' people do!

Thanks for listening...

Hear, hear! Well said! You should see all the threads in the Epic forum. How the Epic is being compared to the second coming of Jesus (I thought that was reserved for the fruit phone?) and that the EVO is absolute junk/worst phone on the the planet.

It's quite laughable with all the E-penis being thrown about. Just enjoy your phones people. Its amazing what these little devices are capable of doing and I for one am just thrilled to be part of the Android community!

And just for the record, my "garbage" EVO is scoring 1300 on stock 2.2 with Sense and I have no lag whatsoever. It just works, to quote a madman.

I have seen several quadrant scores of the Evo with froyo and they are all in the mid 1200's. Thats very close to what most stock 2.1 X's are running. And keep in mind that a stock 2.1 evo is like 750 quadrant.

In the " What changes do YOU see with Froyo 2.2?" thread, quadrant was about twice as fast as 2.1, so it was an improvement, and there was improvement in other benchmarks too. http://androidforums.com/1318134-post505.html My Evo 2.1 was stock and scored 550.

Worrying about another phone being faster is like worrying about someone else's penis being bigger. What matters is does your Evo do the things it needs to do and are their apps that are not able to run correctly because of this inadequacy.

If there are apps that are not running correctly because of this supposed lack of speed, please post them.
