PANAMA
I had my HTC desire for a month, but I'm sorry to say that I will go back to iPhone. Don't get me wrong, the device is amazing, super smooth and fast, good camera, internet loads faster than my old 3GS and open apps in matter of seconds. Most importantly, it offers me endless possiblity of customization.

Even having all that great features, there is something that lacks, and it makes me regret of my purchase sometimes. I tried to make it work, I tried to adapt and change my preferences, but I can't do that anymore.

Why? Crappy apps, and being unable to buy them.

Today I was in the market because I just got bored of the only 5 good games for android. So I entered looking for soiemthing new. Seeing apps like "shinobi barrage" and "ghost chaser" being 4 stars and topping the games list, it made me sad. Games like those only get 2 stars in apple market. And I don't like having such a powerfull device just to play a game with 10 years old graphics. Then I encountered with the nazi theme and ringtone apps. I lol'd...

And I not only refer to the quality of apps, but also the availability of them. Using an android device in a small country has forced me to search for warez and download cracked apps and games, wasting my time and possibly infecting my computer with viruses. I don't mind paying $10 for an app, as long as they let me.

Android market is still in development, and there is a lot left to do. They might outsell apple, but just like a computer, they are useless without the right apps. If someday I see thing getting better, I would switch to android without hesitation, however I don't see this happening in a near future.

I will keep my desire for some time until I sell it, then I will use the money to get an iPhone 4. No flash support, not widgets, no fast browser, but in exchange I can get countless hours of fun, a great media player, better camera and I will be able to buy what I want. not downloading it ilegally.

I'm too busy to waste my time searching for warez so I can get such common apps like google navigation, pandora, etc. I hope you understand my frustration. Please no jokes about reception issues thanks.

How... do you figure a .apk might infect your computer with viruses? Help me, here.

You know that if you remove your SIM card and let the phone connect to the internet via wifi, you can see paid apps, right?

My Market app offers apps from all over the world; not sure whether it works with paid apps or not.

I find that I'm playing games less and less with my old iPhone, so the lack of cool games don't bother me. I play games that don't require much commitment, i.e. you don't have to ensure you have this amount of time in order to clear a level, etc.

It's a.valid point the op makes. The quality of most apps is appalling.. although it is slowly getting better. Thing is... Android is still new so u can't expect it to compete with the iPhone app store which, until recently, had no competition. For those that love mobile.gaming,.android is a bad choice. That said... I am quite happy with all the emulator for the genesis,.snes, GBA etc...

There are plenty of great apps and games, but unfortunately many of them (especially games) you have to pay for. I can see what you mean if google still don't let you have access to pais apps, thats not good at all.

Again, i think this is more to do with what country you are in, than the market itself (still googles fault tho)

Google must realise by now they are severely hampering some peoples enjoyment by not offering them paid apps, i'd love to know what reason is holding them up, because it must be a big deal to stop them opening it up.

Not the apk file, but navigating through warez sites. I used to download warez when I was a kid., not anymore, I don't feel confortable doing so. Plus you dont know whats in the code of a cracked app.

And no, removing my sim card did not let me see paid apps. only the free ones.

you mean can't buy because of technical reasons or can't bring yourself to buy becuse the apps are crap?

I can't buy them because they don't show up.

Will still keep my desire until I sell it, that could be weeks, or months, who knows. Just wanted to share my experience.

Sad to see anyone not get along with their desire but see your point totally, google need to do some work on the market in general, both availability of apps in certain countries, and the market interface itself is rather poor. Personally Ive found all the apps I wanted but I had to pay for some and it was more effort to find the right ones than I'd hoped it would be.

Enjoy the iPhone, its not for me but near enough everyone I know who owns one is happy with it.

Great games? Well how about psxdroid or scummvm? If u don't know what they are then you obviously have not explored the options available to android users?

And how about gamelofts library, some awesome graphics on them such as nova! IMHO there are some great games for Android and because you have a dodgy connection or incorrectly set up handset you are going to get a phone that involves you selling your soul, piece at a time to Steve "nut" Jobs?

Have fun.......

This is not a personal attack but excuse me, i dont get it that just because you can not download more game apps then you get frustrated, if you want games..get yourself a PSP or Nintendo DS. Remember that what you have is not a gaming console. Games are very secondary for me when it comes to why i bought an android phone in contrast to the fact that i can not open any email attachment that isnt a picture with the iphone justs ticks me off.

Good luck with your Iphone mate. :)

Yes, android apps suck. No question about it, I just wish I'd bought an iPhone too. The iPhone just works!! If you cant beat um...join um !!!

At the end of the day...the HTC desire/android are for people who cant afford/justify an iPhone. Oh yes...how rebellious....going against the grain, going against convention... I dare say the same people have a betamax player, laser disc player, and a sega saturn gathering dust at the bottom of their wardrobes, after similar attempts to "rebell" with tech. The HTC Desire, betamax player, laser disc players and the sega saturn all have/had suppierior processing power but if the software/media is not produced to take advantage of them...they are useless.
