Root [Theme] NexTheme for Droid X Froyo 2.2 (8/26/2010)

hey fab are you going to post how to go back to stock?

Yes, I'm working on that. It should be up this afternoon.

Some more info: it will try to be a universal back to stock MM, so you should be able to use it with most themes out right now. That also means that there'll be extra files in there that aren't used in NexTheme.

Let me just say thank you! This is my first Android device that I got on launch day. I rooted this morning using the 1-click method. I just finished installing this theme. I really only wanted the black status bar, but the entire theme is beautiful. I was nervous a few times but everything worked using your method. My 3G "seemed" to disappear, but came back after a WiFi on/off toggle. Also, my physical hard buttons were initially not illuminated, but they seem fine now.

Am I correct that if you have Revo going you can just use the .zip for this theme and unpack it with metamorph considering that the top bar and clock/text are the same for both themes?

They're quite different, actually. But the services.jar file is exactly the same, so that you won't need to push over again.

The framework-res.apk file doesn't only modify the top bar, but many aspects of the overall system.

@Fabolous What is the battery app and other widgets on that same screen with the battery widget you have in the screen shot.

Battery life.

The top bar is power control (you must apply the Settings.apk theme to get it to look like that)

The two to the right and left are the included MotoTorch and Ringer widgets (look in the /app folder)

where/what is the settings.apk you are talking about? The stock is nice... but I'm betting you can make it nicer with the skin you have. Also, how did you get your motoTorch to look like that. Mine is a really ugly icon.

Everything you need is in the file from the first post. Use metamorph to theme the settings.apk. Uninstall your mototorch and install mine to make it look that way.

I have updated to 2.2 and after massive trial and error to get it loaded, I am there. However, one of the things I also loved was Fab's NexTheme, BUT I get a major issue when trying to load it.

When I push the framework and reboot, it loads to Droid, thent he Droid logo only loads about halfway, freezes, tries to reload again, then goes black and freezes. I had to SBF twice.

I'm back at 2.2 and before attempting again, was hoping to get some advice going forward (i.e. does the theme only load on 2.1 and has to be updated?)?

Thanks much!

"It is meant to be run on the .604 update to Android 2.1."... from the OP, althought it probably should say it can ONLY run on... but yeah, everyone with 2.2 that has tried has had the same results as you - SBF time...

Hey, first off let me just say thanks for making/ uploading this. I installed it all, and it looks sweet! However, I do have seem to have some minor problems running it. For some reason, whenever I disconnect my phone from my computer via USB it reboots. Also, when I turn the phone on, it boots up and then randomly reboots a second time. Obviously, this isn't anything super bad, but it is just a tad annoying. Anybody have any fixes or ideas of why this might be happening?

I had the same thing

I'm guessing you're using a notification tone off of your sdcard? So the system tries to access that before the card is mounted and restarts because of the error.

The best fix is to use a default notification tone (stored on the phone). Other fixes include disabling sd notifications, or putting your phone on silent.

I was using a custom notification and had the same issue. I found you can either disable the sounds for the sd card (under sound settings, not sure if this is a 2.2 only thing tho) or do what I did. I took my custom sounds, and converted them to .ogg files using a free converter I got online. Then I dumped them back to my card and moved them to system/media/audio/notifications using root explorer. Reboot. Now go select your new file for your notification sound. Problem solved and you get to keep your custom sound!
