WiMAX 2 standard, and its theoretical 1Gbps downloads, to be finalized soon

I haven't even seen Wimax1 yet, I'm not jumping for joy on Wimax2...

Heck, I would be more happy for longer battery life than download speeds on mobile network... Can you imagine the battery drain on a 1G down stream? If 4G already sucks battery like a mofo, that 4G V2 is going to be a short circuit the way it uses battery...

They are going to limit the down to somewhere sensible, so we would never see the full speed... I however would pay the full $30 for tether with 1GB down!

They actually don't need to because V2 is going to use the same antenna and our phones can connect to this theoretical V2... So they can use V2 and build the same infrastructure... IMHO the biggest problem for our phone is not the downspeed, it's the battery...

The problem of downspeed is going to be Sprint's image vs other companies... This isn't a change for the consumer, it's a change to stay in the game...

I understand that v2 will be backwards compatible - it would be stupid of Sprint to do anything short of that. What I'm saying is, get us the v1 considering we're paying extra for it.

We're only paying extra compared to sprint's 3G customers... To other places we're still paying less... So really to me it's not that big a deal, it's $240 over the course of the contract... That's like a few dinners in 2 years...

I agree I would love to get a snippet of 4G every once in a while, but it isn't up there on my list of top priorities... I rather get an influx of cool apps...

Actually battery usage will be a lot better, the faster the better actually. Same with our processor in the Evo with it being 1ghz vs a 500Mhz processor. When it gets its task done quicker, it consumes less battery life vs the 500 working harder. Like when I'm at work, The signal is pretty crappy, and pages take a while to load, even sometimes going into roaming. My battery would drain pretty quick. But when I'm not at work, and been using the net, the battery is pretty good, even streaming Youtube vids.
