Engadget reviews get to be a bit annoying at times. If its not an iphone, its just "ok"

Yeah, I didn't think anyone else noticed their tendency to downplay any device if it's not an iProduct.

Reading the whole review, I am confused. They talk poorly of the Epic throughout, then wrap it all up saying they strongly recommend it, saying it is "Killer". It makes my head hurt.

Sad to see that the aGPS bug is alive on the Epic. +1 to dietcoke, lol. (for now at least )

And I don't know what was up with those videos, I have seen some really good examples elsewhere, even samples from the captivate/vibrant look excellent by comparison. You can check out user submitted samples on the Galaxy S facebook page. Maybe whatever they use to host them is causing problems...

31st can't come soon enough. At my work, friends 4g card can get 10mbps and at home I have seen 9-12 mbps on clear. I'm one of the lucky ones who have a 4g network that rivals sprints 3g network around my home area. Plus a hacked PRL so I have full 3g coverage from VZW if needed. Can't get any better than that.....

Sounds about like Corpus Christi... I'm gonna guess you live in Austin though.

Make sure to check out the gizmodo review too. The gizmodo review is overwhelmingly positive and Engadget's review has a negative vibe to it. They're pretty much complete opposites....
Sprint Epic 4G Review: The Best 4G Phone

I know. Everyone is giving it really amazing reviews. The 31st can't come soon enough :D

Yea, I know! Im still using an oldish Samsung flip phone(have about 2yrs with it) but hey! Its been to hell and back and still works like a charm.

This will end up being my first smartphone. Have been interested on android for a while, never shown interest for any iphone one bit.

With all these reviews coming out ALMOST TWO WEEKS before the release of the phone, anyone think they might release the phone a bit sooner because of the good reviews the Epic has received so far?

Ha, I am guessing that that is the wish of most members here. I know that is my wish. :D

Would be great if Sprint played a joke and said "August 31st was just speculation, the 20th is the true date" We wake up the morning of the 20th to find stocks of Epics on the store shelves. Yeah, a man can dream...

My main concern after readin those reviews is what engadget said :
To our surprise, also missing is the neat "puzzle lock" mode available on the Captivate and Vibrant, which allows you to immediately view messages, missed calls, and the like by dragging and dropping a puzzle piece into its matching hole on the screen.
I loved that feature on Touchwiz. IDK how long I will use Touchwiz, but to me that was a really cool feature, and honestly if it doesn't have that I am much more inclined to install launcher pro or ADW.

If lock screen can't show missed call/messages, that would be a bummer. Engadget review also complains that you can't mute the ringer from the lock screen. When I went to checkout Vibrant in tmobile store last month, the rep showed me that you can just press and hold power button even on lock screen and it brings up the menu to toggle ringer. I wonder if it is gone from Epic. It will be bad if it so. Also, one other thing that I am really afraid of right now was the music playback controls widget that appeared on the top of the lock screen in form of half CD. If they moved the clock on top of the screen, I fear they would must have left the widget out. With these three things out, lock screen will be just useless and would just hope some developer will port the captivate lock screen to Epic.

The engadget review had an update that said gps was fixed. What!!?? Cool, I hope they are right. They don't like keyboard as much and EVO has slight edge.

Gizmodo, iPhone fansite, actually loves the Epic. Bested the EVO (hinted better than iPhone but too scared to print) and best keyboard ever.

Gizmodo reviewer must have smaller thumbs.
