Could I/Should I Insure my phone?

For anyone that's experienced with Sprint's insurance policies:
I've had my Evo for a little over a month now, and it hasn't seen much action, but I'm going camping this weekend and it just made me think.. what if something happened to it while I was out there?

My only experience with insurance was with Verizon and my phone got wet which isn't covered by them for some reason, so I'm just curious what kind of things does Sprint's insurance cover, is it worth it, and can I even get it a month after ownership?

Look at it this way. Full tag on the phone is $600. Is that something you want to pay out of pocket?

I've been with Sprint for almost 10 years now, I learned early on that Insurance is worth it, especially with these expensive Smart Phones. As heavy as these phones are, it would suck to drop it only to discover with the heavy weight + glass = broken screen.

Too late you can't as you're over 30 days, but if you weren't then I'd say it's up to you.

Product Insurance has more value the newer an item as time goes on and the value of the item decreases then so does the value of the insurance. I will not keep my TPS past month 11. As I'm sure you'll be able to get a EVO for $99 new.

Insurance makes sense on 1st gen Evo to account for issues that inevitably come up with new products. I plan to drop my insurance within 6-12 months because there will be other similarly capable phones out bringing the price of Evo replacement down. It will also be in Sprint's best interest to drop the price of Evo to under $100 on short-term specials to keep the sales numbers steady and to make sure there's a continuously growing demand for Wimax.

I wouldn't count on $99 without a new contact. The iphone 3g was still to selling for $200 use just a month ago

Being on Android is nothing like iPhone a year from now the EVO will be a Dinosaur and you'll want to upgrade anyway.

TPS <= 11 months > 11 months screw it. If your phone breaks just get a new one it's going to cost you $100 deductible anyway where as to break your contract goes down every month.

i added it last night. gf wanted it more than me, but i was getting somethign out of my truck put the phone on the seat, then went to pick the phone up but for some reason, i dropped it. thankfully, i was able to snag it out of mid air a foot from the cement floor. seems like these screens crack up pretty good on impact, so A i feel lucky, adn B, i'm glad i have insurance.

Normally I do not get insurance...
but because the EVO has such a large glass screen...
I am thinking about getting it .. when I get the EVO.

yes.. you are past your 30day window to get it.

But you can call Sprint and see if they will add it. Sometimes they will.
if that dont work...
take it to sprint corporate store. so they can see the phone is ok .. no issues. and see if they will let you add it.

never hurts to try... :D

just wondering because i know that we get 1 year warranty for the evo if something goes wrong with it (the phone i mean), and seeing as though i'm a sprint premier customer and can upgrade every 12 months, is it worth the 7$ insurance for sprint (if i get insurance its gonna be from sprint not bb)? ive never lost a phone or broken a phone but i am afraid of something going wrong with it, like software or hardware issues. should i get the insurance? please help as i hope to buy the evo this week. oh and if someone can kindly explain what the 1 year manufacturer's warranty covers that would help too! and last question; let's say something does go wrong, software wise, can i take it to a sprint shop and get it replaced? thank you all so much :)

I have it of course, and $50.00 or $100.00 deductible beats have to pay 599.99 for the phone if its lost, stolen, dropped, etc. and I believe its handled by Asurion a 3rd party vendor who covers replacements. The one year covers anything that doesnt involve you dropping, rooting etc.

Just so people know, you only have to pay the $100 if you're phone is lost, stolen, cracked screen or water damaged.

If something else goes wrong they will fix it or replace it for free. For example my charger port went bad and the replaced the phone and I didn't have to pay a deductible.

I think its smart to keep insurance on the phone right up until you are going to replace it with a new one. Before I got the Evo I had the TP2, which worked well, but had some cosmetic defects. Thru some creative misrepresentation, I was able to get an insurance replacement on it, right before I got the Evo. That way I could get top resale value for it looking nice and fresh.

Really? I'm actually getting a replacement EVO through Ausurion due to a recessed power button and they told me that I had to pay the $100 deductible.

In any case, I'm glad I have insurance. I've had so many issues with the EVO since purchasing it on launch day...

I just switched to Sprint from AT&T who I had been with for years. Over time I've gone through several phones, one of which I keep, and is always my backup. Now that I'm with Sprint I have no other phone. If something were to happen to my EVO I would have to purchase a phone even if it wasn't another EVO. I got the TEP for that very reason.

Once I have an EVO as a backup phone, I may reconsider the insurance on my next phone.

Wow, I didn't even realize there was a 30 day window to pick up Sprint TEP. I thought it was an add-on that you can place on the account at anytime. I mean, my TEP just transferred over, so I didn't even have to mess with it, but maybe that's a new policy. I've had TEP since Sprint first started offering it (at that time, only $3 per month) and they'd also give you a complete replacement regardless of what happened. Since they made changes to it a few years ago, they added the deductible (if it was something not covered under the TEP coverage), but I'll tell you this, I've never ONCE had to replace a phone under TEP and had to pay a deductible. I think Sprint allows for 2-3 replacements, prior to charging the deductible.
