Controlling which services start at boot

Is there way to control which applications/services start when the phone boots?
Every now and then, the voice control, moxie mailer, etc will be running when I don't use them, need them, or want them to run. I'd like to be able to control which items are running in the background, much like an 'msconfig' in Windows.

thanks

I've been wondering about the same thing. I'll check out Startup Auditor, but that looks like it only impacts what apps start up when the phone boots up. Is that correct?

What I'm seeing is a bunch of apps that keep restarting themselves while the phone is on. For example, I might run Advanced Task Killer, kill all the running apps, then check 10 minutes later, and several apps that I have not used are back, even without having restarted the phone. They're usually a mix of downloaded apps (such as WeatherBug, Voice Recorder, etc) and built-in ones like Voice Dialing, Settings, etc. Not always the same apps all the time.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

It's a slow day at work (my real job) and I decided to do a google search for startup auditor and was led here. It's rewarding to see people actually use something I made!

mjschmidt,
I didn't realize paid apps weren't available in Canada, that stinks! Any news on when that changes? I've gotten downloads from even places like Saudi Arabia, why not Canada I say?

If anyone has any suggestions/complaints/feature requests, I'd love to hear them. Due to Market constraints I hardly get any feedback or information from users.

I'd love to see many more screenshots since it isn't a trial

No clue when, and Google aren't exactly forthcoming with the info. Google blames Rogers (my carrier), Rogers blames HTC, and HTC blames Google. It's a merry merry-go-round of responsibility.

Canada is not the only country in this conundrum. Here is the current list from google: Supported locations for distributing applications - Android Market Help

Trials are only good if you can still access the paid apps. You don't need a 5 day trial if you can return the app anyway for your money back.

I appreciate that not all DEVs can do it, but it's nice when you can get a "Lite" or gimped version of an app for free. Maybe a Startup Auditor Lite that only lets you auto-close x number of apps (like 2 or 3) and you get more, plus bells and whistles, if/when you can buy the full version.

I agree with the limited version, but I'd even be happy with a "non-functional" version that you could download and browse around to see what it would actually do if it was "unlocked" by a fee. It could show you everything that it would really do based on what it finds installed and can control etc, just not actually allow you to disable the apps yet.

Thanks for the compliments. I really hope some day the Market allows developers to respond to comments, at least to ask for more specific information from someone who claims to have a problem.

For example the most recent one claims there is a problem with Startup Auditor on the HTC Magic, but I haven't heard any complaints before about this. If anyone who reads this has an HTC Magic and Startup Auditor please let me know if there are legitimate issues.
