Increased life for Desire battery - Really works.

I barely get 5 hours use on a good day. This battery makes me sick

You're using it wrong. Stop blaming the battery, it's the same one as in my phone and mine lasts for two days, as do lots of other peoples. Do some research and put some effort in. The battery life will then improve.

Unless you are literally constantly browsing the internet for 5 hours straight, the batter is capable of lasting far far longer. If you ARE using the internet for 5 hours straight, I suggest sticking a microUSB adapter on your car battery to get you through the day. :p

Any tips then? i have read loads about the battery but nothing seems to let me get a day out of it. 10 HRS max is my best

Unless your sitting next to me all day, don't make assumptions on how I use my phone. Do you not think ive already researched!

For someone else who can advise without making assumptions, I have BT off, low brightness, gps off, only have twitter and occasionally MSN running.

After completing the experiment it ran for 30 hours before i first got a low battery warning which is double what i normally get . The question on my lips is what now ? I just stuck it on for 2 hours and it says its fully charged but will it give me another 30 hours , hell even 20 and id be happy . I wouldn't mind doing this crazy charge every so often if it helps in the long run .
It'd be a great idea if i know in advance that im going on a journey or something with no access to a charger i guess.

psh, he's using it right, you're using it wrong!!.

Anyone who has a desire and makes the battery last 2 days is using it wrong, you have an amazing phone, use its amazingness, drain the hell outta that battery, thats a batterys raison d'etre. it lives to pass on its charge to others. Don't be so cruel to your battery, give it a reason to be alive.

its like making humans stop mating, "no no, don't mate once a day, you can survive doing it once every 2 days you know!"

wrong.

Ok I'm having issues... I used to have quite good battery life, now its dire.

I had it on charge last night. Unplugged it at 5.20am when I got up. Haven't used it. By the time I grabbed my phone to go out the door at 6.20am it was down to 89% WTF!!!!

I then spent my 45mins train journey on here... and I now have 72% battery... I'm starting to wish I'd bought my phone charger with me!

I've got everything turned off 3g/gps/wifi etc - and only turn them on when needed. I have a plain (ok its Pink) background, with 13% Brightness on, turned off Vibrations (that was just annoying), turned off auto updates...what else am I supposed to do.

Also it took a total of 14mins to shut down this morning...is that normal???

I dont think a 14min shut down is normal. My phone never takes more than a min.

Have You got a task manager running? I find that helps to kill off the unneeded apps.

Also have you tried the process on here?

Haven't had a chance to try the battery process on here, only jusy discovered it...will try it tonight though.

No I don't have a task killer...I was told to get rid of it, which I did!

Fair play for saying what needed to be said! Far too much is said about battery life on this forum, it's an amazing piece of kit that is on a par with a laptop's capabilities in some instances, try getting a day out of your laptop unplugged! By the way I run with no auto updates on (it takes 5 sec's to do manually) and I only turn on networ/wifi/bluetooth/gps when I need them, I do a good 2-3hrs surfing each day and the brightness is changed as and when it needs to be. Tried this charging trick once and saw no difference. I charge mine overnight while I sleep and rarely have a problem.
Obviously it would be nice if it went for longer but manufacturers always fall short of 100% perfection otherwise you'd never change it, think this phone is a definate 9 1/2 out of 10.

I tried this yesterday and at first I thought it had worked as normally within an hour just on standby the battery indicator has already dropped a tiny bit, yet this time I made 3 calls and checked an email and 3 hours later it showed full charge.

But a couple of more hours and the juice was being used up, the same as always.

The most infuriating thing is, in order to get my emails in real time like on my old Nokia N82, I need mobile internet switched on and that uses the power.

My Nokia would switch on the 3G connection every half hour to check emails and I would get 2 days out of it.

As someone else has already said, this phone is like have a BMW M3 but driving it like a Nissan Micra 1.0.

Love all the advice about switching this and that off but then I might as well stick my sim in my mid 90s Nokia.

I dare not use the phone for games, music and video so my iPod Touch is still my media player as the ability to receive phone calls is number one priority as it is my work.

Moan over.

Battety saving tip!

I have tried everything to get longer battery, Even bought the extended battery with the bigger case on the back of the phone, It didnt even last as long as the original!!!

The best way for me and if you are willing to do so is to turn off the 3G down to GSM only and it will save your battery buy a large amount.

When you are in an area that does not have a 3G signal your phone constantly tries to find the signal and in doing this will drain the battery even when the phone is idle.

Give it a try, Hopefully you will notice the benefits i have.

Then change to GSM only. DONE!

i wonder if this is actually misreporting the battery level, than giving any extra juice. I find it really hard to believe..

This is definitely giving extra juice. My results are not as good now as the first 3 days but I'm still finishing the day with around 30% when before I was finished by 11pm. So its defo improved mine not by 50% but enough that I no longer worry were my charger is if im out.

Will the phone then switch to 3g or H when i need it to? How would i be able to use the net for instance?

Been on it quite heavy today and its now down to 28% since i unplugged at 7:30.
