Car dock out of stock?

On Monday night I put in an order for the car dock at verizonwireless.com. It said "In Stock!" and had free overnight shipping. I was happy.

Tuesday morning I get an e-mail from verizonwireless saying that the dock was back ordered. I called my local Verizon store to see if they had any. "I think they are our across the country" was the reply. I was sad...

Anybody know where there is stock?

Have tired. Best Buy doesn't even list it on their website. The Motorola site shows it as "coming soon". Googling it just gives a bunch of universal docks...

I have been having a hard time finding a decent UNIVERSAL mount for my Droid her locally! I went to 5 stores today: Walmart, Pep Boys, Target, Big Lots, Best Buy...Could not find ANY window or dash mounts that would fit the Droid under $30 and even they weren't any better than the $10 ones on eBay!!!! I guess I will have to order one from eBay and wait. I can add a magnet to turn on the car mode...

Tuesday it was still there but it said out of stock.

So, here's the end of the story:

Last week, I noticed the car dock was back on the verizonwireless.com website, so I called customer service with my order info and they said it was still out of stock... Yesterday, I got fed up and entered a new order using a different e-mail address. Today, I received my car mount for the new order. I call customer service back:

VW: Can I have your order number?
Me: (old order number)
VW: That is still out of stock. I had someone call about this earlier too. We usually get things back in on Thursdays.
Me: So, if I submitted a new order yesterday, I shouldn't have received one today?
VW: Uhhhh. No...
Me: Please cancel this order.

I ordered last week by phone directly from Verizon Wireless. Couldn't find it on the website either. Called up and they shipped it that day, came two days later.

If you need a good charging cable (I already had one) the ones at Best Buy come with the cable. Something fishy with the VZW packaging.

I haven't tried but often if you order something to pick up you get a 10% off coupon that MIGHT work on cell accs. Plan accordingly cause the docks are $40.

WalMart for the charger. Found one for $15, which works fine. No wonky screen issues. WalMart also recently sent me a $5 gift card as a promo... so it cost me $10.

Just ordered the dock. $25 shipped... not bad!

I would of had mine today but the salesperson at the Verizon store put on need a signature for a 24 dollar piece of plastic. If they are going to do something like that they should ask you if you want that option. If it was a 500 dollar phone that would be a different matter. With the snow we've had it isn't worth trying to drive all the way across town to get it myself. Oh well, have to wait another day. It's so cold, the universal mount I've been using fell off the window. The foam on the sides sometimes hits the camera button so I'm looking forward to the custom mount.

Oh, and hey, you can get that charger and a 3' cable for $0.01 with it. Not bad.

The only problem with that cable is that it isn't a 90 degree cable. The connector on the Droid comes out the bottom when in the dock, so can interfere with the dash. For a penny,however, don't pass it up!
