to establish a baseline, i am with sprint, i have 4G coverage in my area and i have no intention of going back to verizon. my upgrade is available in october, so far these are the options i have.

1. the epic 4G: member of the Galaxy S family, 4G phone, newest in the line of android phones for sprint. the problem: it has a slide-out keyboard. i know most people like this, however to me it's an unnecessary moving part that adds bulk to the phone. all else being equal this would be a deal breaker(why did sprint have to have the only galaxy S phone with a physical keyboard!). but then the competition is,

2. the Evo: fast, 4G, the big brother to my current phone, the hero. the poblem: im not looking to lug around a big-screen TV. nor am a fan of the kickstand, it just seems to me to be begging to become loose, constantly coming out and snagging on things.

either way, im getting ahold of something that has a feature that im not just dissinterest in, but that i actually want to not have on my phone. which of these three should i settle for or should i wait hoping that a smaller version of the Evo or a keyboard free alternative of the epic will come out some time soon(im wanting to get into that sweet 2.2 action that the hero will never see.)

as a side question, does anyone know if korean phone companies are willing to support american phones(this is not a tech question, i know that american cdma phones will work and have used my hero there). i understand that sprint and verizon will, for policy reasons not cover phones that they didnt sell, just wondering if i was able to make an extended stay in Korea if i could take my phone from america or if i would need to buy one there.

Personally, Android keyboard is horrible. HTC is okay, but you need a big enough screen for it. Evo fits it nice. If you get the Epic, I suggest getting the HTC IME mod.

i'll probably be downloading a few other keyboards. i really like the neostyle korean keyboard. it gives access to english qwerty, numerical and hanguel keyboards. since im wanting to learn korean this would be helpful, so the soft-keyboard is a nonissue. though i am willing to give the epic a test-drive.
