Accessories Evo at the Gym/Running

I would like to take my Evo out when running and at the gym. I like to use CardioTrainer to keep track of my runs, see if I'm improving or not, and DroidFit when I lift weights to note how much I lift on each of my sets/exercises.

So I got a few questions:
1. While running, right now I just keep the Evo in the pocket of my shorts - will the extra shocks that it gets impact its lifetime; would keeping it in the pants pocket be a complete no-no in the long run?

2. I am thinking of getting an armband for the evo while running, anyone has recommendations for one that would fit well? Right now I have a generic iphone/ipod armband but it doesn't fit well the Evo. Also I would prefer an armband that would let me use the Evo while running - for example to change songs, access CardioTrainer. If armband is not the right answer any other suggestions? I don't really want to run with the phone in my sweaty hands

3. I would like to use the Evo while at the Gym, especially in conjunction with Droidfit to keep track of my workouts - note down how much I lift on each set, make sure I don't slack compared with previous days. I am not sure how to handle the Evo in this case, should I just keep it in the pocket of my shorts? Can you keep the phone in the pocket while squatting/deadlifting? I am concerned mainly not to damage the phone, so any advice would be great.

Check out SPI Belt. They have arm band versions and belt versions. I got the water resistant belt version and love it. I take it running and am currently using it with a normal set of plug-in ear buds. If you got a bluetooth stereo headset, you'd gain the song switching functionality. I'm also running the Google My Tracks app to keep GPS points/maps of my runs & hikes. The belt works great, and doesn't bounce around and is overall very comfortable.

If you get the belt version, be sure to ask for their "new, larger version" which is more compatible with the HTC Evo.

It fits the Evo really well, almost like they had it in mind with making it. The little money pouch inside is pretty cool too.

Could you link to which one is the "new, larger version" or is it not listed on their website? Would I have to call for it? Also, how roomy is it? Is the EVO snug or bouncing around?

Thanks!

I emailed them first to confirm, but it was as simple as ordering the regular water-resistant version and putting in the check out options that you want the new, larger version intended for the HTC Evo 4g. I worked with "Kevin" if that helps, and he made sure everything was correct.

The design is pretty cool, it's really small until you put something in it and it expands to fit that item. The Evo fits perfectly, very snug, doesn't bounce around at all. Has plenty of room for other things if you wanted to put more stuff in there, however I probably wouldn't outside of some cash/ID maybe. I wouldn't put keys in it or anything at the same time as the Evo for fear of scratching it.

Also be aware that there are two types of straps, one w/ SPIBelt's logo, and one that is just plain black. I opted for the plain black version.

I like the belt version a lot rather then wearing armband & just running freely. But how much does the belt pop out with the phone? can you wear a shirt on top of it?

thanks for the recommendation ... soldiers get 15% off

It fits very close to the body. I usually wear mine w/ the "pouch" facing backwards on my lower back/waist area and found that the most comfortable for myself. My shirt drapes right over it and no one is the wiser to the fact that I have something on.

I was worried about it looking like a fanny pack at first, but it's not even close, very discrete and low profile.

I bought a cheap one from cellphoneshop.net and was able to use it with the 3000mah battery. I expanded the opening a bit by cutting both sides of it to make it easier to get it in and out.

Armband For HTC HD2, EVO 4G - HTC EVO 4G

It is inexpensive but I can't recommend this one. I just received mine. My EVO with the Body Glove protective case does not fit well at all. I will have to cut into more than I would like and the top flap does close over the phone. The phone goes into the arm band very hard, hard to get out. When I got the phone out of the arm band, it smelled of adhesive and my EVO was sticky.

My arms are somewhat muscular but not that much... I can barely get the band around my arm. Maybe it will stretch, maybe not.. I will give this band to one of my daughters or their friends for their devices.

I was really hopeful. I do need a sport band for my EVO. Probably go with a "tune belt" or similar rig. It is a decent sports arm band but not for my EVO.

I think most armbands aren't designed to be used with a case on the phone. You might want to try the Arkon armband I posted. You'll have to take off the case, but the band is plenty accomodating and I didn't notice any adhesive smell and there definitely was not any stickyness. The hole in the armband also lines up with the headphone jack on the EVO.

Best part is it's only $14.95.
