Root do i need to unroot?

Hi all,

after water damaging my phone i want to send it away to be fixed. You see it still works but the battery is draining like crazy, even with the phone switched off.

So before i send it back will i need to unroot or will it not matter. And if i do need to unroot, how do i go about it, as most of the methods talk of using a 'goldcard' however i rooted without the use of a goldcard, using the 'one-click' method?

Thanks All

It is quite easy to tell if it has an SLCD or AMOLED. What you need to do, is find a page (would be pic, app, webpage, deesnt matter) that is a black as possible - but not screen off- and see if it is a 'true' black, or a 'whited black'. You should be able to tell, but if unsure, do same thing with another devive, that you know has a LCD or LED - such as TV, iphone, (smaller devices are preferable), then just compare them. You will know an AMOLED black when you see it.

You're in a difficult situation then, as you cannot rebrand an Orange phone (which would remove root), and if you install a generic ROM then there's a chance they will refuse a warranty repair.

ok thanks.....so basically i'm fooked??
either live with it or send it away anyhow and chance it that they'll repair it for me, worse case they'll send it back as is and it'll be back where i started?!

rooting doesnt void your warranty anyway does it? I thought android was open source so therefore fully legal to root.... Send it in rooted and if they say anything, just play dumb, say you dont know what they are talking about, for them to say you have rooted it they will have to call you a liar, and believe me they will NOT do that.

Good luck

Its true rooted phone = no warranty
Use a goldcard & install a generic rom one of the first two from the following link will do

[ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs - xda-developers

After all installing an official htc rom is quite legal & using the goldcard method isn't rooting, I am on orange & i know they still cover the warranty & so do htc using that method.

Why is a goldcard required if he is already rooted and using a custom ROM? If he installed a generic ROM the same way, would he still be rooted? I thought generic ROMS would reset the bootloader as well as the OS.

I am about to get a Desire and am worried about the warantee so I'd just like to know as much as I can about rooting.

Thanks
