**Confirmed: Pulling Battery Tab does NOT Void Warranty!**

Yeah I stupidly listened to my son who pulled his out then I pulled mine out only to find that Motorola must have figured we (or some folks without said "gift") would do that as it is in their little "tips" widget not to pull it out. I promptly extricated my battery with a nail file and put my little tab back in and also did my son's.

I'd like to think I was pretty smart for my smartphone but alas, this one kicked my butt for about 2 weeks. And still is in some areas but I am getting better.

Oh crud, I just ran across this post... put me in the "not gifted" category. Battery said pull, so I did thinking it had to be removed for the contact on battery and phone to work. kicking myself now. Do you think I could find the tab, I've only had the phone for a week now.

You could just always replace it with Verizon. They will send one out to you in exchange.

Count me among the idiots. Got my "X" just yesterday. Saw the tab that said to pull. I thought the plastic had to be removed to expose contacts. Carefully pulled it all out.

Just now I read this thread. Fortunately I had put the plastic against a clean smooth piece of slick paper. I peeled it off the paper, pried the battery out, replaced the plastic, put the battery back, and everything is ok.

I'm an educated man, but it sure fooled me.

I'm getting the droid x in the next week or so. Someone mentioned the Droid having this tap also and I have no clue what this tab is. Anyone have a pic?

Thanks in advance

You can't miss it, it's bright yellow and sticks out somewhat.

Just got my phone today and on the tab it says "do not cut" is this new or was it just misinterpreted?

What confused a lot of people, like myself... was that it has both "Pull" and "Do Not Cut" labels in there... which... if you infer from those two, means that you're supposed to pull it out but not cut it out (or something like that). There was nothing noticeable as those two that said "DO NOT REMOVE".

It annoys me when people say that it was in the Tips when you first turn on the phone, so they did say it. Those people obviously don't understand that for us who pulled it out... we already pulled out the tab before we even turned on the phone.

Understood. It does look like something you would pull off as it is right where the battery goes.

LOL, most people would be putting the battery in before they turned the phone on, so it would be long gone by the time the tip screen showed up.

Electrical engineering student here, I pulled it too. I'm used to dealing with devices where you have to pull a tab to activate the backup battery. I saw the word "pull" and I went for it. I wondered later why they would make the battery so hard to remove. I also wondered why they would put the MEID number on a piece of trash.

Didn't know until today that I did something wrong. Is it actually a problem? I just softly slap the phone on my hand to loose the battery. I'm not really looking for the hassle of replacing it. Maybe if they send a new one free, and a prepaid return box but that's only if I'm in trouble with the phone as is now.

i almost yanked that sucker out as well

from the way it's labeled it makes you think you have to pull to expose the contacts. i was lightly pulling and trying to yank it out myself before i realized i wasn't supposed to pull it. i just got lucky and caught myself.

My Droid X temporarily died today. I wanted to try popping out the battery, but, of course, I had pulled the tab off minutes after opening the box several weeks ago. I walked into the nearest Verizon store and the tech guy was able to pop it out and that fixed the problem. However, he said "You know you voided the warranty right?" I freaked out, came home and Googled droid x battery tab warranty voided, which of course led me here. What a relief. What an idiot (the Verizon store guy, not anyone on this forum).

I didn't have time to say it yesterday, but I received my replacement Droid X. I took my battery out, which took me like 20 minutes with tape, and then put it in the new device. My new one looks like it's either brand new or it was just in flawless, like new condition.

Very happy with Verizon's service! :)

I was told the same thing at the verizon store and sent on my marry angry way. I have a dead SD card after my X randomly rebooted surfing the web.

New Droid X is coming today! Woohoo! Now I have to try to take the battery out of my current one... Anyone have any tips?

I see you finally got your battery out... congrats!

I posted this on another thread, but thought I would post here as well to help others who have made this mistake:

A credit card slides nicely between the battery and the left edge of the case. Slide one in and wiggle back and forth a few times... my battery popped right out with this trick.

I think I'm in the minority, but the whole bottom label came out when I pulled mine and it took very little force. I guess my label just wasn't placed very well. It is glued to a flat metal surface, maybe the adhesion was just poor.
