Accessories My Evo Car Mount.

I know I am a new user here on this website but I have been browsing the Evo 4G forum here since I got my phone a few days after Evo's release. (I had to wait for Sprint to ship it to me.)

I wanted to just share some pictures with you guys. I picked up a Car Mount for the Evo about 2 weeks ago.

The Car mount is actually for an iPod/phone. Works really well with the Evo and the case I am using.

First off here is the Car Mount Kit: Kensington Windshield /Vent Car Mount

This is the case I am using on my Evo right now: Amzer Rubberized Snap On Crystal Hard Case

I was holding out until the Otterbox one became available but I don't think I care anymore this case is more then enough for me.

The Car mount came with Air-Vent Clips and a big Suction cup thing.
I don't like the suction cup thing. I Drive a 06' Saturn ION Redline and my Vents are round and rotate 360deg. So using this on the vents was not going to happen. The phone would bobble all around during the drive.

So I had to improvise a bit, and I pulled back my center console and I put the vent clips in to it and pushed the console back together.

It did end up leaving a little gap, but its really nothing noticeable. I have used the phone in it for about 2 weeks now. No issues at all with it. I do live in Michigan where the roads are all full of potholes and suck pretty bad lol!

Anyways here are 4 photos of the install!

Here is a shot of the Evo in the Mount:

Thats it!

Sweet. I have the same mount. It won't hold my phone WITH the Pt case on it....but it works great in a pinch. Google Nav is so much better than the stock Nav that came with my 2008 Mercedes. Don't leave it in your car so that potential thieves can see it....if they spot a mount they might assume you have a GPS unit...and could break the window to look around.

Great job with the mount though...if it works...then it does what you want it to do.

dude whats with the gauges in the middle of the dashboard?

All Saturn ION's gauge clusters look like that. :)
Cockpit flight view haha!

Takes about 2 days to get used to, once you use it you end up loving the position of it.
You can see everything perfect.

I have the Boost gauge in front of me. Everything else is right off to the right center.

Youve never seen that ? Many cars have em.. PT Cruisers, Mini Cooper, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Echo, Saturn Ion, Scion XB...

The list goes on....
Yeah, I girl I used to date had a Yaris and I could never get used to the instrument panel being in the center of the dash, lol.

Seeing the pics though, the set up is pretty cool, but there's a large empty area in front of the steering wheel that looks like it'd be perfect for a dash mount:

Win?

If I had a dash layout like that I'd definitely consider it. Then the phone would be right in front of you.

It's interesting that you aren't even using the vents to hook up your vent mount, my vents look like they would have some difficulty hooking up to it so its interesting that it can work on other parts.

My Vent Fins are too deep for the vent attachment to fit on them. Not to mention in the Saturn ION The Vents rotate 360deg. So the mount+phone would be moving/bouncing all around if I used it like that.

how well does it hold onto your phone with the amzer case on? i have a seidio case and i really like kensington's design (actually it's so simple, why don't more companies make them like this instead of having those ugly claws like the Argon mounts).

With the Amzer case on that mount holds the phone perfect. I have driven 600+ Miles so far using the case+dock together and I have never had a single issue with it.

Hey Psywar, how do you think a dash mount like the one I posted would work in your car?

It might work alright. The dash in front of the steering wheel on my ION is kind of Sloped. I don't know if the beanbag dock would be heavy enough to stay in place there over bumps n such.

I really do not want to glue or tape anything to my dash either. I tend to baby my car lol!
