The title says it all guys. I'm gonna include a poll simply this isn't a matter of opinion, it's an easily identifiable fact.

If you are unsure what class micro SD card your phone came with please follow the following instructions (this should be most of you, because unless you had some reason to check, you won't know this off hand).

1) turn your phone off (full power-off, not just screen off)
2) open up the back of your phone and pop out the battery
3) slide out the sd card (just pull on it with your nail a bit)
4) look for a very tiny little number that is all by itself: it will be 2, 4, or 6. That is the class of your card.

*you need to pull the card out to see what class it is because the number is hidden when it's inserted in the phone

This is urgent because I'm in the middle of dealing with a corrupted card that I already exchanged at a Verizon store. After I left I noticed they had put in a class 2 card. I really was almost certain that it came with a class 4 or 6 but when I called them to question it they told me they had it in front of them and it was a class 2. I suspect they are trying to save themselves the hassle of further dealing with my problem and are either lying to me or not actually checking correctly. Please please please help me guys.

EDIT: PLEASE INCLUDE THE BRAND OF YOUR CARD IF YOU CHOOSE TO POST.... (based on another thread I read, it may be that the class 4 cards are from some no-name company while the class 2 cards are Sandisk cards which have about the same speeds as the class 4 no-names)

EDIT #2: It appears we're dealing with two cards

1) class 2 Sandisk* (Set Your Location)
2) class 4 SD-C16G [Toshiba] (Memory Products - Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc.)

*When I walked into the Verizon they actually took one of the 16GB packages w/ the card reader off the wall and just gave me the card from it. This may not be the same quality as the card listed on Sandisk's website, as that one seems to go for a much higher price, regardless of the fact that it is also a class 2 (SanDisk® Mobile Ultra™ microSDHC™ 16GB Card with MobileMate Micro Reader)

As I mention in later posts, I have access to both of these cards. Thus, I intend to test the two cards in question with the Crystal Disk Mark tool when I get home today. (Crystal Dew World - Software - CrystalDiskMark)

EDIT # 3 It appears that there its actually a third type of card floating around: it's a class 2 card without branding. It appears that this may have actually been the initial card I had in my phone before it went bad. Surprise surprise, it now looks as though someone else has had this version fail on them as well.

This really is infuriating: not only so they only give some users class 4 cards, but if you do get a class 2 card, there's a good chance it won't even be a quality one!

SUGGESTION FOR ALL NEW BUYERS: CHECK WHAT SD CARD YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN! IF IT ISN'T A CLASS 4 CARD OR A SANDISK CLASS 2, REFUSE TO BUY THE PHONE (if you're in-store that is). ..... You may even want to refuse the class 2 sandisk based on what I end up finding with my benchmarks....

Update:

My brother and I each ordered a Droid X on the same family account in a single order. They shipped together in one box etc, etc.

> His has a generic "made in Japan" class 4 card.

> I don't know the details of my original card b/c it was corrupted and I just exchanged it at a local Verizon store for a new 16GB class 2 Sandisk card. When I actually noticed the difference in class, I called the VZW and inquired about my old card's class: they said it was 2 as well (and claimed that they had it right in front of them, which is possible...). Unfortunately, this call was before I realized that there may be a difference in card brands, so I didn't think to ask that.

Here's what it sounds like to me:
Some people have received generic class 4 cards and some people have received Sandisk class 2 cards. Based on the results here (specific post): http://androidforums.com/support-tr...what-class-16gb-microsd-card.html#post1272832 , they may actually have the same read/write speeds.

Since I have access to my new Sandisk class 2 and my brother's class 4 generic card, I will run the benchmarks on them when I get home today. If it turns out they are the same speed, then no-harm, no-foul. If the class 4 is faster, I'm gonna put the hurt on Verizon and Motorola (or vice-versa... I mean I've already spent about 4 hours on this situation...)

Class 4.....I got mine shipped to me release day, got it the Friday after release day (which if I remember correctly was the day after release).

The Droid X is totted as recording 720p, from what I understand, a class 4 card is REQUIRED to record at 720p (class 2 is supposedly too slow), so ALL new X's should come with one, if not I would contact Verizon and find out whats up.

EDIT: Also, if it makes a difference, I bought my directly from Verizon.

Can you take a look and see if it's a "made in Japan" generic card or if it's a Sandisk please?

My card seems to have corrupted itself a couple days ago, and now a bunch of my Beautiful Widgets stuff is hosed. Other than that and two icons, I don't have anything on the card. Is there some indication of what causes these things to go corrupt?

I'm on the phone at this moment and can't check the card, but I'll vote shortly.

It doesn't sound like the card itself has been corrupted. If you check the settings/sd card & phone storage settings, and the reading is around 14.8GB and, it seems unlikely that the card is corrupted (not all of the 14.8 will be listed as available though). It is possible that some of the BW data got corrupted or deleted somehow, but as long as you still have access to the card, you aren't in the situation that I was. I had no access to the card whatsoever (neither through my computer or phone).

EDIT: Woah... I didn't expect that response BRM10984.... would it be possible to post a pic of your card?

Yeah, I'll see if I can take one.

When I pull the card in the SD Card and Storage menu, everything shows as "Unavailable." I'm also stuck with a card error in the status bar. That error states "SD card blank or has unsupported file system." If I click on the notification, it prompts me to format the card. At this point, I guess I can't go wrong with that- though I'm not sure I have much faith in this card anyhow. 16GB is pretty cheap these days, anyway, right?

Alright, here we are...

I went ahead and posted a photo of the back of the card though it's not particularly legible. Hope these help...
