Root Secret LED on the right side of the earpiece grill?

what you are seeing is the infrared transmitter for the proximity/light sensor. The human eye cant see it, but the sensor on that camera will.

Or maybe not, i just noticed there is another sensor behind the glass ...<shrugs shoulders>

No. Cameras and video cameras have an IR filter in front of the sensor chip to block near-light IR transmissions. This is why photographers with dSLRs no longer need IR screw-on filters in front of their lenses. --UPDATE-- I'm wrong. only high-end a/v equipment have good IR filters.

Easy to test. Record the front of your remote control and see if you see any pulsing lights. You won't.

The proximity sensor is in the black area under the normal left-side LED.

Can I jump in (without derailing this thread) and say that my camcorders can easily record the outputs of my remote controls. Both the front and rear cameras of my evo pick up my remotes.... Perhaps YOU should test this.

I guess I stand corrected. Although both my SLR and my dedicated camcorder pick up nothing. I guess the evo's camera is cheap and they didn't bother with the IR shield. I did test :) just not with the evo.

Newer dSLR's and high-end video cameras, YES. Everything else...no. Here is my EVO with an active call(the only time the proximity sensor is on) and you can see the purple glow from the light. I took pics with my Hero and my Kodak V1003(posted this one, it looked better). My Olympus E-500 requires a filter, my E-3 does not.

So, I was definitely wrong on the location of the IR Tx LED...prob won't be the last time either :)

Just launched the app on my phone - the other LED is nice. I'd like to be able to see notifications on that LED, and charging only on the left (or vice versa)

I hate that I can't see LED notifications while the phone is charging.

Same.

I also miss the colors on my Blackberry Tour. I could set any color for any notification.. Especially Blue for my Bluetooth.

Thsi is a step in the right direction :)

yes.. hate missing notifications when charging.
move the charge led to this new LED... and leave the old notifications on the old alone.

if bluetooth is on.. then flash the new one .. ever 2 sec or so.

solid when charging. and blink off every 2 sec.. if charging and bluetooth is on.

great app idea.. bet you will sell almost every evo owner on this for $1.
