Ok this is not a my battery sucks thread.

My battery life is just fine. I keep all toggles off when I am not using them. I just downloaded Where's My Droid? and would like to run with GPS on all the time so that I can locate my phone if it is ever lost/stolen.

Has anybody tried running with GPS on all the time? Did it screw your batt?

I have read that GPS won't use battery unless you run an app that needs/uses a GPS signal. Please confirm or deny.

I won't be able to test this myself as for the next several days I will be using apps that use GPS so it won't be a true test. I want to compare.

Let me know

Thanks!

Heide is right except for one thing. Does that app you utilize cause the GPS to activate? When I say activate does the GPS/radar/satellite dish (whatever you think it looks like) appear and green little rays come out? If so, then that app is going to drain some battery power. If that app doesn't cause the GPS to activate in the way I described 24/7 you will be just fine.

I would assume with an app like that you download something that gives you access directly to your GPS so you can basically remotely activate your phone in order to find it.

I keep my GPS only all the time and started doing that when I downloaded Wheres My Droid. I get graet battery life and only see the GOS activated when I go the the Weather Bug or some sort of navigation. I want the GPS on all the time in case my phone gets lost - I can find it, and in the case of an emergency 2 people have my "text me" code and that will ring my phone loudasHELL for 5 minutes so they can reach me.

I HATED having to turn GPS on and off to use weather and navigation, so when I had a good excuse to leave it on.... I finally did. I lose 2% overnight when the phone is asleep (not charging) , I unplug whenever I get a full charge and can easily get 24+ of use with lite use. 12-18 with moderate use (calls, texting, surfing, etc)

My GPS dish icon green rays are constantly on. I have Weatherbug loaded but I have the use gps unchecked in it's preferences. I see in the list of running services that friendlocationservice for google maps is running. Latitude is disabled. The only thing I can think of is maps but it is always running and no way to force quit, it comes right back. I would love to keep the gps aware but I can't have it active like this. Are there any apps on the app store that can help me determine what in the heck is using it constantly? It is definitely cutting my battery time in half.

Download spare parts from market and check GPS usage under battery history.
