Root Clockwork recovery on froyo

Can you flash clockwork recovery(from Rom manger) onto your phone if you have the official 2.2, rooted. I want to make sure that the recovery image is compatible with froyo.
BTW I rooted 2.2(FRG01B) with easyroot, i have not installed any roms, themes, kernel etc. and i have busy box. Please reply, i am new at this.

I too am new at this. I rooted with easy root after I downloaded and installed the FRG1B update. You can flash clockwork from rom manager. It doesn't always work though. Sometimes it goes into stock recovery. I just re-boot and flash it again. I've heard other people talk about this. I don't know if it is an easy root issue, or that clockwork is just moody. I just flash clockwork right before I try to install anything. This seems to work best.

And, here we go again....
ROM Manager, an app developed by some of the most knowledgeable folks in Android, has been around for months now and has helped thousands of folks manage their phones. I'd say the blame goes to some POS app that has only caused confusion and problems.

I too rooted the force fed FRG01B I obtained from this forum with Easyroot and clockwork would never stick. I used Rom-Manager to download a stock FRG01B rom that was pre-rooted with no part of Easyroot coming in to play and still can not get clockwork recov. to stick.
I think that may cure the Easyroot theory?
Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated, as of now I need to flash clockwork every time prior to recovery.

Did you return your phone to stock (using RSD Lite) and then root? Or were you still rooted with easyroot?

Why not just flash SPRecovery from ROM Manager, and see if that sticks?

I understand the convenience of ROM Manager, and doing everything from the phone, but Clockwork can be problematic, like everything on this phone. It just varies from person to person.

There's a reason why there's an option to flash either. When I started having problems with Clockwork, I flashed back to SP and haven't had any problems, or any reason to flash back. I'd give it a shot.

Running into the same problem with Clockwork not wanting to stick. I emailed the developer, no response.

I flashed my phone to ESD56 (2.01) via RSDLite, rooted it with with a update.zip file, installed a pre-rooted version of FRG01B (2.2) from inside ROM Manager. Same problem - Clockwork will still randomly disappear after a few uses.

So it looks like it's very unlikely that it's a problem with Universal Androot/Easy Root. I don't see how they would even factor into this - the apps (Easy Root, at least, not sure about Universal Androot) use the exploid hack in order to allow su/Superuser.apk to be copied onto the normally read-only /system directory. They go nowhere near the things that matter (boot, recovery partitions).

For what it's worth, I tried manually flashing the recovery.img for Clockwork to the recovery partition using flash_image and it would still disappear at random (most notably, battery pulls - SPR flashed through RSDLite would always stick no matter what).

Flashing SPRecovery from ROM Manager doesn't seem to stick either.

SPRecovery would not stick either, nor would older versions of clockwork stick?

I was still rooted with easyroot when i flashed the pre rooted rom. Why would that make a difference if you clear everything prior to install of the new rom?
Every thread that I have read about recoveries not sticking also had mention of easyroot. I honestly have no idea how it would affect the recovery, but it just seems strange. I've never seen this problem before easy root. I won't go pointing fingers, i'm just making observations. I'm also very curious, so I was just asking.

After all the playing with Easyroot and clockwork recovery, I installed CM6.0.0-RC3 and a P3 standard voltage 125-1250mgz kernel, and rom manager and clockwork stick every time. I am wondering if it is the combo of rom manager and FRG01B??

Any opinions?

I rooted FRG01B with universal androot and had no issue with recoveries not sticking. It seems this issue is easily fixed by flashing a rom though.

this is the closest solution to my issue that i feel i have found however im not sure if i can solve it yet by employing any of these methods so maybe you can help me....

out of the box, i rooted and then was able to succeed in getting my mytouch 4g into s=off mode. once i achieved that I attempted to root to make some ringtone changes and realized that I lost the ability to root. I have superuser p[ermissions installed but the app opens up with a blank list and i cannot get visionary to root me either. Would clockwork and/or easyroot solve this issue for me?

This is the Droid 1 forum. If you post in the forum below someone should be able to answer your question better. Also I thought I read once that the My Touch only allowed temporary root and that after rebooting it unrooted your phone (though I am neither certain nor sure that's correct only something I vaguely remember reading about).
